Arch & Plan Residential Modest and intimate, grand and spectacular, an urban site or in a satisfying, experiencesfor Brent Dickens, Principal Architect at Architecture planning. http://www.archandplan.com/res.htm
Extractions: Residential Projects Examples In residential design, each architectural expression reflects a balance of building technology, energy conservation, site development, and personalization, integrated with passion and excitement. The personalization is achieved through attention to detail by a comprehensive group of capable professionals applying the best of their respective crafts toward the satisfaction of the client, the environment and the fastidious observer. Founded in 1973, the firm has been responsible for multi-family housing complexes, custom homes, and residential remodeling projects totaling over 200 projects, in excess of $50 million in development value. Modest and intimate, grand and spectacular, an urban site or in a quiet mountain setting; every residential project requires a thorough and sensitive analysis responsive to the client. This process customarily evolves more slowly than other types of projects. Extractions: In this class we will focus upon understanding how the City of Oakland works. This city is unique. It is one of the most diverse set of communities in the United States. There are more than 273 language groups, each with their own history, culture, beliefs and services. Despite its reputation in the media, it is a complex and safe city, as you get to know it. We have run this class for over thirty year, with the students both impacting the community and people's lives, and getting jobs to work in both the public and non-profit sectors. There is a current upbeat feel about Oakland, given the new mayor, and the changes in the last few years. We will try to develop a major report to the city, on what we think are the key issues of health and urbanization. It will be available to the Mayor and other public and nonprofit agencies in the city. To do so, getting as full a picture of the city will be necessary to learn, as much as possible. This means learning how to "case the joint," gather existing data and intelligence, and understand its organizations, structures and processes. We will walk the streets, visit the city and it's many villages, walk the streets, visit its schools, clinics and myriad of churches and other organizations. As part of the visits, we ask students to take cheap, replaceable cameras and take pictures of parts of the city that are both new to them, which portray the life of its people.
