Auburn University Libraries -- E-Gateway The combined collections of the Auburn libraries contain more than 2.2 million volumes, 1.4 million government documents, 2.9 million microforms and 134,000 maps. Subcriptions are maintained to 19,000 current serials and 150 current newspapers. Access to the World Wide Web and online databases is available through out the Library Specialized collections include veterinary medicine (30,000 volumes and 500 current serial subscriptions); and architecture, design and construction (35,000 volumes, 85 serials and over 70,000 slides). Extractions: Hours: Monday-Friday 1-5 p.m. appointments recommended The University Archives, established in 1948 by UCLA Provost Clarence Dykstra, is the official repository for non-current University records having permanent historical, legal, fiscal, or administrative value. The University Archives records document the history of administrative and academic units and of UCLA-related organizations, as well as the activities of the campus's faculty, staff, and students. The University Archivist serves as a records consultant for all campus offices. The personal and professional papers of the UCLA chancellors, faculty, and selected administrators are managed by the Manuscripts Division of the Department of Special Collections. The University Archives has records dating from the late 19th century. In 1881 the California State legislature authorized the establishment in Los Angeles of a normal school for the education of teachers. Soon after its creation, the school was named the Los Angeles State Normal School (LASNS). In 1919 the school became the second campus of the University of California and was renamed the Southern Branch of the University of California. The name changed in 1927 to the University of California at Los Angeles. The current name, the University of California, Los Angeles, became official as of 1953. The campus has been located in the Westwood area since September 1929, having moved from its previous site on Vermont Avenue, near downtown Los Angeles.
