Travelling Light In Greece, Edward Lunny It was like travelling back in time! I see mules, peasants, and women tilling the fields by hand. Leaving Naxos, I go to the spectacular island of Santorini. http://www.travel-library.com/europe/greece/trip.lunny.1.html
Extractions: January 1993 Keep in mind that the dollars quoted are Canadian. Any questions, feel free to E-mail. Alone in Greece- hardly new ground for travel veterans but for someone middle aged who has never been away from North America, it was quite an experience. I booked 3 nights in Athens before I left Vancouver with no plans for the next 4 weeks except to see Greece. My plan was to amortize the 1500 dollar airfare with cheaper accomodation and meals etc. on the less expensive islands. But let's start at the beginning. Packing proves difficult so research pays off. Some travel stores have a good checklist and the library has numerous books that tackle the subject. Like many people, I usually pack too much so to put everything needed into a carry on bag took several practice runs. Like Noah, I bring two of everything except for underwear (5). We all have our idiosyncrasies. Pack those things that will be expensive-film at $7.00 a roll, suntan lotion at $10.00 a bottle and pocket books. I learn that research doesn't always work though, when my over full bag breaks at the Athens airport the day I arrived. Bring a publication such as "Let's Go-Greece". It lists good places to change money, inexpensive places to eat and stay, costs of transportation, museums to see, maps etc. Athens is a vibrant, yet heavily polluted city. It takes only 2 days to see the main attractions - Acropolis, Parthenon, City Museum and the Plaka Market (my favourite)-so I decide to head for Naxos.

May has finally hit, which means the sun is out, the cruise ships are docking and the first groups of travellers are showing themselves in Estonias capital and a few smaller cities, cautiously poking their little noses around like squirrels coming out of hibernation. Strangely, this northern climate being what it is, the leaves are only just now appearing on some of the trees, and the weather is still unpredictable. Within a few weeks though, the trickle of visitors will turn into a flood, so if you want to beat the crowds, now is the time to make your move. With Estonia now in the EU, a lot more people are dropping in to find out what this busy little country is all about. Fortunately for them, and for you, In Your Pocket have assembled this excellent website to help you plan your trip. Once you arrive, youll want to pick up the freshest hard copies of

My Piece Of The Pi: Gonna Go Back In Time Raise Your Hand Main A New (But Still Busy) Person ». July 29, 2003. Gonna Go back in time. I've done some time travelling tonight, back to the past few summers until Thursday evening, I'm living at my parents house again. Toledo for dinner tonight and then brought me back to Dearborn with them http://www.milbertus.com/EEMathNut/archives/002622.html
Extractions: Main I've done some time travelling tonight, back to the past few summers... until Thursday evening, I'm living at my parents house again. I have no car to drive until August 1, due to the fact that it's still in my dad's name and his birthday was July 22 ; we thought it'd be a waste to renew the Michigan license plates for just a few days, since the car will be in my name as of this Friday, and it'll need Ohio plates. So, my parents came down to Toledo for dinner tonight and then brought me back to Dearborn with them. Tomorrow I'll go to and from work with my dad, and Thursday I need to be in Detroit again for my legal name change hearing. So I'm finally going to legally be what I've been called as long as I can remember - it'll be nice once this is finally settled! It's weird living here again now that I've been married and living in Toledo for a while. Toledo feels like home, and it's like I'm just a visitor here - it's like a hotel but better. :-) The cat has definitely welcomed me back here... I have my laptop for work, so I got it out and plugged in to the jack in the guest room so I could talk to my husband online, assuming he were on tonight that is. The cat just came right up, jumped on the bed, and settled in next to me, like this was the most natural thing ever. Either that or she was mad I'm in her spot, because this is one of her beds, I'm not sure which. And later tonight, Bill's going to call me on the phone... just like we did for the three previous summers! I'm going to miss him tonight, but it just wouldn't work for me to be driving up here tomorrow and Thursday and leaving him with no car, since he has to work tomorrow too. So we've reverted back to the past, but luckily it's only for a couple days, because I like the present better. :-)
BBC - Science & Nature - Space - Time Travel The idea of travelling forward into the future or back into the past paradox is the argument many people use to suggest that time travel is impossible. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/exploration/timetravel/index.shtml
Extractions: by Neil Johnson The idea of travelling forward into the future or back into the past has always fascinated science fiction writers. The 'grandfather paradox' is the argument many people use to suggest that time travel is impossible. What if you went back in time and prevented your grandfather from meeting your grandmother so that your mother was never born? Then you would never have been born... and so on. Until very recently such arguments led most scientists to believe that time travel could never exist outside science fiction. But amazingly, some interpretations of the weirdness of the quantum world now suggest that time travel is possible - at least in theory. Gravity and black holes Einstein's theory of relativity brought space and time together in a single, four-dimensional arrangement that he called spacetime. We know that we can travel forwards, backwards and sideways in space, so why not forwards and backwards in time? Four dimensions are difficult to imagine, so physicists usually suggest you think of spacetime as a rubber sheet stretched out flat. If there are no large masses around, the sheet stays flat, and so any object placed on it will move around in straight lines. But a large mass, such as the

Getting In A Twist Over Time The most notorious is the idea of travelling back to the time before your parents were born and killing your grandparents, making it impossible that you would http://www.spacedaily.com/news/timetravel-01a.html
Extractions: Ronald Mallett thinks he has found a practical way to make a time machine. Mallett isn't mad. None of the known laws of physics forbids time travel, and in theory, shunting matter back and forth through time shouldn't be that difficult. The catch usually comes when you try to make it work in practice. Remember wormholes, those clever little tunnels in space and time that can supposedly be used to travel from one moment to another? On paper, they're a perfectly respectable way to travel back in time. Trouble is, you need a supply of exotic "negative energy" matter to prise your wormhole open. But Mallett, a professor of theoretical physics at Connecticut University, believes he has found a route to the past that uses something much more down to earth: light. Mallett has worked out that a circulating beam of light, slowed to a snail's pace, just might be the vital ingredient for time travel. Not only is the technology within our grasp, Mallett has teamed up with other scientists at Connecticut to work towards building it. "With this device," he says, "time travel may become a practical possibility."

Extractions: V) The tunnel effect Two professors, not related to each other, claim that they have sent a wave with a speed faster than light. According to Raymond Chiao from the university of Berkeley, who claims to have reached a speed of 1,7c it's impossible to send some information with the signal. Gunter Nimtz of the university of Koln (Germany) says his wave travelled at 4,7c and carried Mozart 40. The question here is not if it's possible to send something with that wave, it's interesting to know that something (an electro-magnetic wave) can move faster than light. If such a signal is able to do it under certain circumstances, maybe an object or a person can too. And maybe that object or that person can travel in time... Chiao and Nimtz call it the 'tunnelling' of an electro-magnetic signal. It comes down to sending an electro-magnetic signal through a special wave conductor. Although some scientists are sceptical about the results of these professors, nobody has proven their wrong yet. Whether they're right or wrong, when it could be technically possible to travel through time or send messages at a higher speed than c, some terrible problems would arise: the paradoxes! VI) Paradoxes In this chapter we assume that time travelling is possible.
Travelling Through Time... So we can conclude that when a speed, bigger than c is permitted, in certain reference systems these fast particles can travel back in time, relative to normal http://users.pandora.be/vannoppen/science3.htm
Extractions: Because the time-bending factor on the surface of the earth is almost 1, time on earth passes almost as slow/fast as on places where no gravitation field exists. When we look at the formula for the time-bending factor by gravity , we notice that it becomes smaller when M is bigger or r is smaller. If M becomes that big and/or r that small, the time-bending factor would be = 0. So seen from the outside, it appears that time stands still. Someone in such a place would probably become mad (if possible there to live), because he would see time pass infinitely fast on the outside of his place (where there 's NO infinite gravity). In reality you can never pass the radius of Schwarzschild. If you would come that close to a black hole, you would be attracted with an enormous power and you'd be resolved molecularly. However, the image of your body would be seen forever on the edge of the black hole by an outsider, 'cause on the radius of Schwarzschild time stands still. Although you're resolved a long time ago, your image stays forever in the radius of Schwarzschild! This means we can look at ourselves in another way. Because time-bending is caused by gravity, we could see ourselves as time travellers. After all we are in the gravitation field of the earth. It's easy for us to travel to the future, it happens all the time! Going back in the past is a little bit more difficult....

Basic Introduction To Time Travel By travelling superlight, or more correctly on the other side of the light barrier, we can arrange to arrive back here at any time. http://erntheburn.tripod.com/timetravel/timetravel.htm
Extractions: document.write(""); Basic Introduction to Time Travel Time and space have fascinated man since the dawn of civilization. People have spent aeons thinking about these concepts and the ideas behind them. The Greeks, the Romans, the English, all have stared at the heavens and wondered. And not without reason! As the boundaries of physics are pushed back and back it is becoming clear that whoever understands the laws of physics best will be able to travel through time and space, easily gaining a dominant position in the known Universe. Indeed that race which can move from universe to universe will get to control all universes! We must therefore double our efforts to ensure that it is we and not some other race who gains understanding first! Or we will end up playing second fiddle for rest of time! Pythagoras into Einstein in two easy steps So where do we start? Well let us start with one of the greatest triumphs of the human mind, the great theorem of Pythagoras, a true pillar of all mathematics and physics. The theorem, which is applicable to right angled triangles in flat Cartesian (Newtonian) space takes the form of: c^2 = a^2 + b^2 where a, b and c are the lengths of the sides of the triangle.
