West View Trampolining Club - Trampoline History The International olympic Committee (IOC) and FIG will only deal with one federation per nation, but trampoline sports could stay separate within a nation as http://www.wvtc.co.uk/history12.htm
Extractions: Search Advanced Search home page club pages ... guestbook On January 1, 1999, the sports of Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline became part of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The former federation for these sports, the International Trampoline Federation (FIT), voted in October to merge with FIG. This was the first time in the history of the International Olympic Committee that two international federations have merged. The merger opened the door for trampoline to become an official medal event in the 2000 Olympics. There will be 24 athletes competing in individual trampoline competition, 12 men and 12 women. Negotiations are also taking place to have synchronized trampoline included in the 2000 Olympics. Ron Froehlich (USA), President of FIT since 1990, was unanimously elected by the FIT Congress to represent the FIT in the FIG Executive Committee and the FIG Council. Heinz Kunz (GER), was elected chairman of the first FIG Technical Commission for Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline. World Championships will be held in the uneven years. The three disciplines (synchronized trampoline, tumbling, double mini-trampoline) will be able to participate. Individual trampoline will be ineligible, due to its acceptance as an Olympic sport.

At that time, the Hughes circus in London called one of its numbers âthe trampoline jumpâ, using this word for the first time. Since then, the word trampoline has been used in different circus performances to describe any elastic apparatus that includes jumping over obstacles or vertical jumps. Extractions: @import url(../../style/default.css); kiat.net where are you :: home Olympics Sports Back to Artistic Gymnastics Although it's quite new as a competitive sport, rhythmic gymnastics is rooted in the very beginning of modern gymnastics. Specifically, it grew out of the Swedish system of free exercise developed in 1814 by Peter Henry Ling. Ling promoted "aesthetic gymnastics," in which students expressed their feelings and emotions through bodily movement. The idea was extended by Catherine E. Beecher, founder of the Western Female Institute in Ohio in 1837. In Beecher's gymnastics program, called "grace without dancing," young women exercised to music, moving from simple calisthenics to more strenuous activities. During the 1880s, Emil Dalcroze of Switzerland developed "eurhythmics," a form of physical training for musicians and dancers, and George Demeny of France created various exercises to music that were designed to promote grace of movement, muscular flexibility, and good posture. All of those strains were combined, around 1900, into the Swedish school of rhythmic gymnastics, which later added more dance elements from Finland. About the same time, Ernest Idla of Estonia established a degree of difficulty for each movement.

If you come from the Attiki Odos ring road, use exit 11 (signposted "Kifissias, Olympic Stadium"). Bus - Use either #A7 or #550 from central Athens. Allow at least 40 minutes (this can vary a lot) and ask the driver for the stop of the Olympic Stadium. Metro - It is the best way to get there. The ride from the city centre takes 25 minutes.
