Extractions: ON THE ROANOKE ISLAND COLONIES Some of the following works are valuable sources of information about England's attempts to explore and settle North America in the 1580s. Others reveal attitudes toward, and interpretations of, these attempts. Many recently published books and pamphlets are still in print; older books are available in the rare-book collections of some large libraries or in facsimile reprints. Some of the articles are difficult to find except in a university library. Publications such as the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature and America: History and Life and indexes to scholarly journals such as North Carolina Historical Review and The William and Mary Quarterly list numerous articles too specialized for inclusion here. This flyer is based loosely on England, Sir Walter Raleigh, the Roanoke Colonies, by William S. Powell. Primary Sources and Modern Compilations of Source Material

David Spangler - Between Order And Chaos Culture (which he coauthored with William Irwin thompson). entering the physicalworld with a new perspective david The mystical part of me still focuses upon http://www.context.org/ICLIB/IC34/Spangler.htm
Extractions: David Spangler is probably best known for his work as co-director and spokesperson for the Findhorn Community in northern Scotland. He has lectured widely on spiritual philosophy, personal development, futures studies, and community development. David's books include Emergence: The Rebirth of the Sacred; and, most recently, Reimagination of the World: A Critique of the New Age, Science, and Popular Culture (which he co-authored with William Irwin Thompson). In the fall, Bantam will be publishing Manifestation: the Inner Art. James Morton, dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, once described David as "a highly regarded advocate of spiritual empowerment" who is "both down-to-earth and a genuine mystic." He describes himself as a "household contemplative," admittedly fond of chocolate and computer games, although not necessarily in that order. I would describe him as one of the more holistic philosophers I know.
Extractions: The post, created last week by President George Bush, gives Brailer oversight over a broad segment of the governments healthcare bureaucracy in order to coordinate health informatics programs across the executive branch. Among Brailers first responsibilities will be the exploration of incentives for technology use in the federal Medicare program. Thompson, announcing the appointment at an HHS health IT summit, said hell work closely with Brailer, and he encouraged the industry to hold him responsible for the performance of the new coordinator. Hell report to me, Thompson told an overflow crowd in a Washington hotel ballroom, so you can hold me responsible. In addition to serving the Health Technology Center, Brailer spent a decade at CareScience Inc., working as the companys chairman and chief executive officer. There, Brailer played a crucial role in the development of a local health information infrastructure in Santa Barbara County, California, which has been suggested as one of the models for the development of a broader national infrastructure. In addition to announcing Brailers appointment, Thompson also said that several other department priorities were coming to fruition. Federal agencies, he said, will adopt an additional 15 health standards examined by the governments Consolidated Health Informatics initiatives. And the SNOMED-CT clinical technology licensed last year by the government for free distribution is now available online at the National Library of Medicine.

Extractions: October 19 World Space Congress NGST: The Name Game Much to everybodys surprise, the Next Generation Space Telescope (NGST) was anointed with the name: The James Webb Space Telescope, after the space agencys second administrator. That decision is thought to have come from the top, courtesy of current NASA chief, Sean OKeefe, who holds the highest regard for Webbs administrative skills. The space agency points out that, while the late James Webb is best known for his managerial skills in shaping the Apollo Moon program, he also spurred into being a vigorous space science program. He was responsible for more than 75 launches during his tenure, including Americas first interplanetary explorers. Here at the World Space Congress, however, specifically among astronomers, the NASA-picked name falls flat. Christening the super-observatory the James Webb Space Telescope has irked the space science community. They would have preferred the scope be named after an astronomer, taking after the Hubble Space Telescope example. Edwin P. Hubble was a staff astronomer at Carnegie Institutions Mount Wilson Observatory. The general picture of the universe established in his work remains at the heart of present-day cosmology.

GO BRITANNIA! Wales: Facts About Wales & The Welsh of the Welsh in the new world long before the continent, but another Welshman, DavidThompson could rightly on his own, this prodigious explorer surveyed most http://www.britannia.com/celtic/wales/facts/facts1.html
Extractions: 1. Welshmen may have settled America before Columbus. It is now well known that Viking explorers reached parts of the eastern seaboard of what is now Canada about the year 1100 and that Norwegian Leif Erikson's Vinland may have been an area that is now part of the United States. What is less known is that a Welshman may not have been too far behind Erikson, bringing settlers with him. According to Welsh legend, Madog ab Owain Gwynedd was a 12th century prince from Gwynedd who sailed westward with a group of followers seeking lands far away from the constant warfare of his native Wales. According to the story, his eight ships made landfall at what is now called Mobile Bay, Alabama in 1169. Owain's little flagship was the "Gwennan Gorn." Liking what he found, Madog then returned to Wales for additional settlers, who consequently left with the explorer in a small fleet of ships. Sailing westward from Lundy Island in 1171, the courageous little band was never heard from again, at least in Europe.
