Extractions: G. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH G-1 External Grants and Contracts 1.1 Approvals/Routing Sheet Faculty members applying for external grants that involve institutional commitments should see the end of this section or the Provost's office for the appropriate "routing sheet." It is advisable to circulate a preliminary version of the routing sheet with brief proposal in advanceto avoid risk and possibly to gain information that could enhance a proposal's chances for funding. The purpose of the routing sheet is to ensure that the proposal is in line with the institutional mission and policies, to assure the faculty member proposing the grant that institutional support will be forthcoming if the proposal is successful, and to be sure appropriate accounting procedures are in place. No routing of proposal is required for internal Faculty Development Grants or for grants and fellowships that go directly to individual faculty members and do not involve institutional commitments. The Dean should, however, be made aware of such proposals. 1.2 Research and Teaching Commitments
