Extractions: Have you watched the Olympics on TV or better yet been there to experience it live? Did you ever wondered why the Olympics started? I did! If you want to be on or go to the Olympics, I think you first need to know about it. Why did the games start? At the original Olympics what games did they play? Also what games do they play today? Now, get ready for the world of the Olympics. Have you ever wondered how the Olympics started? In Olympia, Greece the Olympic Games were held every four years. First Olympic game was recorded in 776 BC; that was about 3,000 years ago. At that time this great festival took place to honor the Greek gods. Olympics were held during the great festival. My resources say Olympics were held to please the various gods. One God, in particular, the most important was called Zeus. The Olympics were called Olympiad in Greece. Now we know where the games are held, but we dont know what games they played? In the first thirteen Olympic games, there was only one event and that was the sprint. The sprint event was about one hundred and eight meters in length. Then later Pentathlon was added and it had different events. There was discus, javelin, jumping, running, and wrestling. After a while, they added Equestrian events and that included chariot racing and riding. The Ancient Olympics did have lots of events. They had two major events Equestrian and Pentathlon events.
Extractions: Olympic Motto The Olympic motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Braver," but is universally accepted to mean "Swifter, Higher, Stronger." Olympic Rings The Olympic symbolfive interlocked ringsrepresents the union of the five original major continents (Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe) and the meeting of the athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games. The five colors of the rings from left to right are blue, black and red across the top and yellow and green along the bottom. The colors of the rings are thought to have been chosen because at least one of these colors can be found in the flag of every nation. Olympic Flag The Olympic Flag has a plain white background with no border. In the center are the five interlocked Olympic rings. The flag was presented by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1914 at the Olympic Congress is 1914, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee. It was flown that year at Alexandria, Greece, but made its Olympic debut in 1920 at Antwerp. The "primary" Olympic flag was thus known as "the Antwerp flag." In 1984, Seoul presented a new Olympic flag (as the old was getting quite worn) to the IOC, which was first flown at the 1988 Olympic Games. At the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games, the mayor of the Olympic host city presents the Olympic flag to the mayor of

Olympic Council Of Ireland :::: of an olympic gold medal was John Pius Boland, a native of Dublin, who won the TennisSingles at Athens in 1896 and he was to win a second olympic gold medal http://www.olympicsport.ie/history.html
Extractions: J.J. Keane, then one of Ireland's leading sports administrators was elected to the International Olympic Committee in 1922 and it is now generally accepted that the Irish Olympic Council as it was known at the outset, came to existence in 1922 but due to the loss of the minutes of the early meetings of the Council, the exact date is now not known. Ireland was given formal recognition as an independent nation in the Olympic Movement at the IOC session in Paris in 1924 and it was at the Paris Games that Ireland made its first appearance in an Olympic Games as an independent nation. No medals in the sporting events were won by Ireland at the Paris games but Jack Yeats was awarded an Olympic silver medal for his painting "Swimming" in the Olympic Arts division and Oliver St. John Gogarty was awarded a bronze medal for his "Ode to the Tailteann Games" in the Literature division.

The 19th century saw the taste for physical exercises revive everywhere ... At the same time the great inventions, the railways and the telegraph have abridged distances and mankind has come to live a new existence; the peoples have intermingled, they have learned to know each other better and immediately they started to compare themselves. What one achieved the other immediately wished also to endeavor: universal exhibitions brought together to one locality of the globe the products of the most distant lands; Literary or scientific congresses have brought together, into contact, the various intellectual forces. How then should the athletes not seek to meet, since rivalry is the basis of athletics, and in reality the very reason of its existence?"

Treyburn Luxurious golf course community in Durham, with Tom Fazio designed golf course, tennis courts, olympic size swimming pool, and a clubhouse. http://www.treyburn.com/
Extractions: Treyburn, acquired by Bryan Properties in 2003, was founded by North Carolinians, Clay Hamner, Terry Sanford, Terry Sanford, Jr., and Frank Kenan. Rich in heritage, the 5300 acres in Durham was part of the antebellum South's largest plantations. Home to the Cameron and Bennehan families from the 1700s to mid-1900s; a resting place for Daniel Boone before his exploration west; and the site of historically significant mid-nineteenth century slave houses and barns, Treyburn is a veritable landmark. The seventeenth-century, tree-lined Catawba Indian Trading Path, once the major route from Virginia to Georgia, also crosses Treyburn. Today, the neighborhood is comprised of homes built next to the Little River Reservoir and around the Tom Fazio, 18-hole Championship Golf Course of Treyburn Country Club. In addition to being rated one of the Top Ten golf courses in NC by Golf Digest, the Club offers an Olympic pool; casual and fine dining; a fitness center; and 8 tennis courts. The Treyburn Corporate Park, home to companies with almost 3000 employees, is a growing employment center. The future of Treyburn, taking shape on 2000 acres to be developed by Bryan Properties, will introduce single family homes in a village setting near The Trading Path; townhomes with golf course vistas; large home sites with water views; an aquatic park with clubhouse; several hundred acres of permanent open space; and a main street retail district. Trails and sidewalks connecting pedestrians throughout the neighborhood will be a Treyburn hallmark.
