Extractions: The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee was formerly called the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Association The Working Committee was first established in 1946, when it was felt that Trinidad and Tobago, a British Colony at the time, should take part in the quadrennial Olympic Games. This original Committee made up of four member-federations (Athletics, Cycling, Football and Weightlifting) was extended provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 1946, thus Trinidad and Tobago was able to send a Team to the Central American and Caribbean Games held in Barranquilla, Colombia. Formal affiliation to the International Olympic Committee was granted to the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Association at the International Olympic Committee session held in London (1948) on the occasion of the celebration of the 15th Olympic Games. From four affiliates in the year 1948 the number of affiliated National Bodies now number eighteen and govern the sports of Athletics, Rugby, Badminton, Basketball, Bobsleigh Boxing, Cycling, Football, Men and Women's Hockey, Judo, Lawn Tennis, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volley Ball and Yachting. The General Council of the Committee is composed of one delegate per affiliate, except at the Annual General Meeting, when each affiliate is allowed two delegates. The officers of the Association are:

History history of the sport. Furthermore, with the addition of the sport to the olympic Programme in 1988, table tennis acquires a mass character. http://www.sportsnet.gr/7/70b/70b1/e70b11.html
Extractions: The first bats The IN 1952 a relatively unknown, the Japanese Hiroje Satoh, appears at the World Championships with a new type of bat featuring an insert of spongy material between the rubber and the wood layers, thus creating a new type of rubber, later known as "sandwich rubber". This new rubber revolutionises table tennis thanks to its ability to give greater spin and speed to the ball. In the next few years, almost all the top players start using this new type of rubber and adjusting to the new way the game is played. New highly technical moves and shots are developed, placing more emphasis on the speed and spin of the ball, which makes the game more spectacular. In the 1950s, Japanese players are the world leaders. They introduce a new way of holding the bat, later to copied by the Chinese, whose total dominance of the sport remained unchallenged until the mid-1980s. From the end of the 1980s and until the beginning of the 1990s, the Swedish team enters centre stage and overpowers the Chinese in three consecutive World Championships (1989, 1991, 1993). Nevertheless, China strikes back and wins the two last international Championships (1995, 1997), thus regaining first place in the World Ranking and reaffirming its superiority. In the last few years, table tennis has made great progress. In an effort to make the sport more attractive and appealing to a wider audience, the rules have changed substantially, and the technological advances have contributed to the sport's popularity. Furthermore, with the addition of the sport to the Olympic Programme in 1988, table tennis acquires a "mass" character. Today, it is considered to be one of the most popular sports in the world in terms of numbers participating, with more than 150 National Federations being members of the I.T.T.F. It is clear that the style of the competitive game has changed dramatically. Modern-day table tennis is based on speed and strength, with the new shots requiring excellent technical knowledge.

Wang Nan consolidated her world No 1 status by winning both the women's singles and doubles titles, a feat achieved only by her retired team mate Deng Yaping. World No 1 men's player Kong Linghui became only the third player to complete a table tennis grand slam by winning the World Championships, the World Cup and the Olympic singles titles. Team mate Liu Guoliang achieved the feat four years ago, and it is historical that a country produced two grand slam winners within a decade.
