Research Background The Stockholm Environment Institute at York (SEI-Y) is well experienced in assessment methodologies such as Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Ecological Footprint Analysis (EFA). These tools not only account for environmental impacts caused by the consumption of materials, products and energy but also provide a sound basis for evidence-based policy-making in endeavours such as regional planning, local strategic partnerships and sustainability appraisals as well as providing opportunities for environmental awareness-raising and education. The results quantify knowledge of environmental impacts and provide an essential point of reference for benchmarking, managing and monitoring progress.
