I've had to keep going back into the site as I think of new topics that will come up in our curriculum this year. The lessons and graphics are great-and are printer friendly which makes it easier to copy for use in the classroom. It's really helpful to show students what "real" oceanographers and other scientists are up to. This is a really fun site!" Without prompts, students will be able to list at least two developments in building materials derived specifically from the exploration of space. 3. Without prompts, students will be able to fully explain how jet fuel has improved because of space exploration, and at least one reason why this is important to air travel. 4. Without prompts, students will be able identify at least three practical improvements that have resulted from space exploration that have also improved their own lives personally. 5. Without prompts and in a well-formulated, one page essay, students will defend the argument that the development of computers as a result of the efforts of the U.S. Space Program has alone justified the expense and danger of space exploration.

Extractions: Children in the United States do not always eat as balanced a diet as they should. Like many Americans, their daily menus are often too high in fat. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Guide Pyramid was created to raise awareness of the importance of a diet containing a healthy number of servings from each of the five major food groups. Use the fact that a balanced diet is ultra-important to astronauts to help focus students' attention on the importance of a balanced diet in their own lives. Contrary to popular belief, astronauts no longer eat dried ice cream, chicken in a tube and other weird space food. Thanks largely to an improvement in packaging technology - allowing food to stay fresh longer and to be eaten before it floats away - space food is very much like what we eat on Earth. Single-serving containers keep foods fresh and make them easy to eat. Several dishes are affixed to a tray that the astronaut attaches to his or her leg. Astronaut silverware is like ours, only it includes scissors for opening packages.
