Extractions: Korea's Main Page LAND Korea lies adjacent to China and Japan. The northern border of Korea is formed by the Amnokkang (Yalu) and Tuman-gang (Tumen) rivers which separate it from Manchuria. A 16-kilometer segment of the Tuman-gang river to the east also serves as a natural border with Russia. The west coast of the Korean Peninsula is bounded by the Korea Bay to the north and the Yellow Sea to the south; the east coast is bounded by the East Sea. Two hundred kilometers separate the peninsula from eastern China. The Japanese islands of Honshu and Kyushu are located 206 kilometers to the southeast, just across the Korea Strait. Because of its unique geographical location, Chinese culture filtered into Japan through Korea; a common cultural sphere of Buddhism and Confucianism was thus established between the three countries. The Korean Peninsula extends for about 1,000 kilometers southward from the northeast Asian continental landmass. Roughly 300 kilometers in width, climate variations are more pronounced along the south-north axis. Due to these variations, marked differences in plant vegetation can be seen along this axis. Generally speaking, the southern half of the peninsula is warmer than the northern half. Back to Top TERRITORY The total area of the peninsula, including the islands, is 22,154 square kilometers of which about 45 percent (99,313 square kilometers), excluding the area in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), constitutes the territory of South Korea. The combined territories of South and North Korea is similar in size of Britain (244,100 square kilometers) and Guyana (215,000 square kilometers). South Korea along is about the size of Hungary (93,000 square kilometers) and Jordan (97.700 square kilometers).

A chain of volcanic mountains rising to heights of more than 3600m extends through the southern islands from Sumatra to Timor. The rich volcanic soil of Indonesia is ideal for growing crops; forests flourish and cover about two-thirds of the land. Tin, bauxite, petroleum, natural gas, copper, nickel, and coal are major mineral resources. Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. According to a 1995 estimate, it has 201,477,000 inhabitants;

I bought mine through Sing 'N Learn . You'll need their tape to make sense of the songs. Although I really like the A.M. tape, there were some which we found hard to learn, so we used the following alternate songs. I have skipped many of the tiny countries (e.g. San Marino, Andorra). I tried to put the countries in the order they appear on the map, as much as possible. Africa Western Europe Eastern Europe Middle East ... Pay special attention to where each line ends; it corresponds to the phrasing of the tune.

South Korea's Flag - EnchantedLearning.com EnchantedLearning.com The Flag of south korea, Japanese map to label south korea Label Me! Printout Label the map of south korea. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/asia/southkorea/flag/
Extractions: South Korea is a country in eastern Asia. South Korea's flag pictures a red and blue Yin-Yang symbol, red (yang) on top, blue (yin) on the bottom, in the center of a white field. Four groups of three long and short black bars (called kwae) surround the central circle. This ratio of the height to the width of the flag is 2:3. South Korea's flag was adopted on January 25, 1950; the flag is called Taegukki (which means, "Great Extremes"). The white in this philosophical flag represents peace and purity. Symbolically, the Yin-Yang symbol represents opposites; it is the belief that all things in the universe have two, opposite aspects that cannot exist without the other. The kwae trigrams are from the I Ching; the broken bars symbolize yin (dark and cold) and the unbroken bars symbolize yang (bright and hot). The four Kwae represent: heaven (three unbroken bars), the Earth (three broken bars), water (one unbroken line between two broken bars), and fire (one broken bar between two unbroken bars). The Kwai trigrams are placed in such a way that they balance one another, heaven is placed opposite Earth, and fire is placed opposite water.

GeographyIQ - World Atlas - Asia - Map Of Korea, South During the korean War (19501953), US and other UN forces intervened to defend south korea from North korean attacks supported by the Chinese. http://www.geographyiq.com/countries/ks/Korea_South_map_flag_geography.htm
Extractions: After World War II, a republic was set up in the southern half of the Korean Peninsula while a Communist-style government was installed in the north. During the Korean War (1950-1953), US and other UN forces intervened to defend South Korea from North Korean attacks supported by the Chinese. An armistice was signed in 1953, splitting the Peninsula along a demilitarized zone at about the 38th parallel. Thereafter, South Korea achieved rapid economic growth with per capita income rising to roughly 20 times the level of North Korea. South Korea has maintained its commitment to democratize its political processes. In June 2000, a historic first North-South summit took place between the South's President KIM Dae-jung and the North's leader KIM Chong-il.
