Extractions: Home State Profiles There is currently no known activity promoting direct pharmacy access to EC. In 1997, the South Dakota Pharmacy Association leadership helped pass legislation against requiring pharmacy access to EC. Many, if not most, pharmacies do not stock dedicated EC products. Planned Parenthood launched a media and mail campaign [see press release (PDF-448K) and press coverage, 4/18/03 (PDF-70K) 4/10/03 (PDF-508K) 4/9/03 (PDF-476K) ] to raise awareness around EC. They are planning to do an educational mailing to physicians and an education campaign to pharmacists in late 2003. The South Dakota NARAL Educational Fund surveyed hospitals to determine access to EC in the ER and signatures are currently being gathered to petition the legislature to require EC in the ER. The Educational Fund may also conduct a survey of pharmacies once the hospital survey is published. Please Note: This state has an optimal environment for EC protocols between pharmacists and physicians.
Extractions: Introduction Over the past few years, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has experienced an influx of immigrant and refugee families. Though there are some limited resources available to these individuals upon arrival, social services and assistance are limited in quantity and duration. Like many Native Americans and even members of mainstream society, new arrivals must meet the challenges of daily survival in a culture for which they are not prepared. For refugees and immigrants, the added factor of having to assimilate a new language may present the biggest hurdle. They need to learn about opportunities and services to develop or enhance skills that will help them cope effectively with their "new" cultural environment. In this way, they can make positive contributions to the community and lead more productive and satisfying lives.

Extractions: April 13, 2004 Contact the webmaster Promoting Conservation Today, For Tomorrow Every man, woman, and child in South Dakota enjoys the benefits of our natural resources. We drink clean water, eat safe food, breathe clean air, and enjoy abundant wildlife; in general, we live in a healthy environment. Many of us take this for granted and assume it will always be this way. We often forget that, as we enjoy the benefits of nature, we are also responsible for seeing that our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities. It is easy to say we are responsible, but how do we carry out that responsibility? What can we as individuals do? Together with the South Dakota Conservation Commission and input from more than 230 groups, the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts has drafted "Today and Tomorrow: A Vision to Conserve South Dakota's Natural Resources."
