Extractions: Hello Team. This is the first edition of our project's newsletter. We are expecting to produce it on a regular basis (probably twice per year). The purpose of the newsletter is threefold. First, it is meant to provide a convenient way for all members of the project to keep in touch with each other and to find out how research is progressing in each of the modules. In a project as large, and diverse, as ours, it is essential that we keep a common focus. Second, it is meant to act as a means of spreading news, announcements and general items of interest to everyone in the project. I would just like to add that our recent get together in Banff was great on both levels: academically and socially. It is too bad that we did not have one or two days more. The meetings not only confirmed the scholarly potential of our project, but also made clear that there are many other opportunities for all of us involved. The consensus among the team members was that we should have similar meetings more often and include a less formal presentation and discussion of current work. Depending on our financial situation, we will try to put something together here in Edmonton during the next winter term (early 2002).
