Extractions: contacts This site is intended to offer ideas for cycle trips in and around SE Scotland and NE England. The routes are not graded in any way but comments should give some idea of their nature. They are not meant to be prescriptive but are just suggestions - obviously you can adapt them to suit your own needs. Comments on the routes would be welcome but what would be even more welcome are suggestions for other trips. Give plenty of detail and I'll be happy to update the site and give your contribution due recognition but, sadly, no fee...;-) If you could suggest links to other sites then that, too, would be helpful. Why not create a site for your own area, then we can all benefit? Comments/ideas to John Brewer email: johnbrewerREMOVE@compuserve.com
Scotland, PA Movie review and pictures. http://www.haro-online.com/movies/scotland_pa.html
Extractions: Scotland, PA In recent years, it seems that there is a rush to retell William Shakespeare's plays in film, with wildly variant results. Scotland, PA is Billy Morrissette's attempt at Macbeth , transplanting the Scottish play to the small town of Scotland in the 1970s. Not only is the castle now a fast food restaurant, but there is also a strange streak of black comedy running through the entire movie. It seems the only thing missing is Julia Stiles, who seems to lurk somewhere in most Shakespeare remakes. Joe "Mac" McBeth (James LeGros, Life in the Fast Lane If You Only Knew ) works at Duncan's with his wife Pat (Maura Tierney, Instinct Forces of Nature under owner Norm Duncan (James Rebhorn, Meet the Parents The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle ). Pat and Mac want something better, and they scheme to off Duncan and buy the restaurant for themselves. They finish the job, and quickly turn the restaurant, now named McBeth's, into an unqualified success due to their new innovation, where customers order from their cars by speaking into an intercom and pulling up to pick up their food. McBeth's is a funny parody of McDonald's. Duncan's murder proves mysterious, attracting out-of-town policeman Lt. Ernie McDuff (Christopher Walken, The Affair of the Necklace America's Sweethearts ). McDuff believes that Duncan's son Malcolm (Tom Guiry

Extractions: 16 November 1093 Margaret (born c. 1045) was the grand-daughter of Edmund Ironside, King of the English, but was probably born in exile in Hungary, and brought to England in 1057. After the Norman Conquest in 1066, she sought refuge in Scotland, where about 1070 she married the King, Malcolm III. She and her husband rebuilt the monastery of Iona and founded the Benedictine Abbey at Dunfermline. Margaret undertook to impose on the Scottish the ecclesiastical customs she had been accustomed to in England, customs that were also prevalent in France and Italy. But Margaret was not concerned only with ceremonial considerations. She encouraged the founding of schools, hospitals, and orphanages. She argued in favor of the practice of receiving the Holy Communion frequently. She was less successful in preventing feuding among Highland Clans, and when her husband was treacherously killed in 1093, she herself died a few days later (of grief, it is said). Prayer (traditional language) O God, who didst call thy servant Margaret to an earthly throne that she might advance thy heavenly kingdom, and didst give her zeal for thy church and love for thy people: Mercifully grant that we who commemorate her this day may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of thy saints; though Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Extractions: Link to photos Yet another trip filled with adventure. This all started when a friend of our said they were deciding to something different for a wedding.... get married in Scotland. And the first question everybody asks is, "Are they from Scotland?" Well, the groom's family name is Scottish in origin, but that is as close as it gets. Mostly, it was just a fun thing to do. And it turned out great! It was also one last good trip for us alone before our baby boy was born. The trip getting there was typical. Most of the wedding party met in Pittsburg. 7 out of 9 that would be at the wedding. Bride, Groom, Groom's Parents, Groom's Brother, and Debbie and Brian. The Bride's childhood best friend and husband would be joining us later. We hung out in the bar and drank while waiting for our delayed plane. Well, most of us had a beer... Debbie was pregnant, so she did not partake. Finally the plane left (with 30 or so teenagers). It was a nice Airbus A330 with Video on Demand at each seat. We sat in a section that only had two seats next to a window, so the trip was relatively comfortable.
