    Extractions: K Ivan the Terrible succeeded his father Vasily III as Grand Duke of Moscow in 1533 at the age of three. His mother served as regent until she too died, when Ivan was eight. For the next eight years, the young Grand Duke endured a series of regents chosen from among the boyars (the nobility). Finally in 1547, he adopted the title of tsar and set about crushing the power of the boyars, reorganizing the military, and preparing to smite the Tatars. In 1552 he conquered and sacked Kazan, and in 1556 Astrakhan, having thus destroyed the lingering power of the Golden Horde. Ivan's Tatar campaigns opened vast new areas for Russian expansion, and it was during his reign that the conquest and colonization of Siberia began. Believe it or not, Ivan was not supposed to have been very terrible at all during the early years of his reign. However, as he grew older his temper worsened, and by the 1560s he carried out a pretty horrific campaign against the boyars, confiscating their land and executing or exiling those who displeased him. In 1581, in a rage, he struck his son and heir Ivan with an iron rod, killing him. Ancient Russia The Romanovs

    Extractions: A tide of strikes and protests ensued, and the czar was forced to establish a limited consultative parliament called the State Duma. The Soviet of Workers and Soldiers became the organ of the proletariat. To gain some control, Nicholas appointed Stolypin his premier; Stolypin proved ruthless in suppressing any further revolutionary activities. During 190709, at least 2,000 people were executed. Stolypin himself was shot to death in the Kirov Theater in 1911 . Nicholas's hold on the country was further weakened by the outbreak of World War I in 1914. Due to anti-German sentiment, the city's name was Russian zed to Petrograd. The notorious Rasputin, brought into the court to heal the Imperial Family's hemophiliac son, had a strong influence over Nicholas and Alexandra and practically ran the country for a few years, until his death in 1916. By the 1930s, membership in the Communist party grew to 3.5 million. At its height, 19 million Soviets claimed Party membership, seven percent of the total population. Membership was open to any citizen who did not "exploit the labor of others," abided by the Party's philosophy, and gave three percent of their monthly pay as dues to the Party. Members were also required to attend several meetings and lectures every month, provide volunteer work a few times a year, and help with election campaigns. Of the 19 million, one percent were apparatchiks, fulltime officials paid by the Party. The Komsomol, or Communist Youth Organization, had 40 million members. Twenty-five million younger schoolchildren once belonged to the Young Pioneers. Eligibility for full Party membership began at age 18.

Only one Americans in history, Scott Sonnon was inducted as an instructor of this long, noble heritage in the attempt to bring the world together in fraternity. The training system, in America, for people of sound mind, improves quality of life, through Russian health system, sport science advancements, and elite combative preparation. In the year 2000, one of the sportive derivations of Russian Martial Art, named Sambo, will be an Olympic sport.

From their beginnings within the Russia Hockey System to Slava's retirement as a player in NHL and becoming a Stanley Cup winning Assistant Coach with the New Jersey Devils and most recently becoming a new member of the HOF along with being coach and GM of the 2002 Russian Olympic team; to Igor's one year contract with the Detroit Red Wings; this site is done to honor their accomplishments. Igor on Slava as a teammate: "We have gone through so much - the Olympics, Canada Cup, World Cup, world championships," says Igor. "We fought the system and won our freedom. We have been friends for over 25 years and to finish with two Stanley Cups is incredible."
