Romans Summary - Year 7 - SchoolHistory.co.uk Summary of the romans the history of Rome and the roman empire. This saw the end of the roman Republic and the beginning of the roman empire. http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk/year7links/romans_history.shtml
Extractions: Summary of the Romans - the history of Rome and the Roman Empire. We have no actual records telling us about the beginnings of Rome. According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. Abandoned by their uncle, they were rescued by a she-wolf. They were found and raised by a shepherd. The brothers vowed to build a city to honour the she-wolf on the hill where they had been found. In a quarrel about the city boundaries, Remus was killed and Romulus became the first King of Rome - which was named after him. Rome was ruled over by Kings until around 509 BC. King Tarquinius the Proud was expelled from Rome and for the next 500 years Rome became a republic. Power passed to the Senate. This was a law-making body containing important nobles with two senior officials, called consuls, in charge. By 50 BC, Rome had conquered many lands around the Mediterranean. Rivalry in the army combined with arguments between the rich and poor caused a civil war.

Extractions: (CNN) "Gladiator" is spectacular, and so is Russell Crowe in the leading role of Maximus, a Roman general who is kidnapped, sold into slavery, and then tries to hack his way back to freedom as a gladiator. Set in the year 180 AD, when the Roman Empire was at the peak of its power, this stunning film by Ridley Scott is breathtaking, both in its cinematic scope and its visual details. It's not a perfect work. The script often defies logic. Who knows why the vaguely defined characters do anything? Scott also apparently feels that accurate geographical details are beside the point.
