The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Certification to teach is determined by the Florida State Department of Education. A degree is awarded by the University. Students who complete the M.A. Plan II in Foreign Language Education offered by USF will be certified to teach K-12 because the degree program is approved by the State of Florida. The Planned Program developed with the faculty advisor shortly after the student has been officially admitted, if completed, will result in the awarding of the degree and certification. Upon completion of the degree, certification as a K-12 foreign language teacher will be placed on your transcript. This indicates that you completed an approved State of Florida teacher education program qualifying you, based on your course work, to be certified at the K-12 levels in foreign language education. You will need to take the FTCE [Florida Teacher Certification Exam] and receive passing scores on the subject area exam and the professional exam section. FTCE must be passed and scores must be on file in the Internship Office prior to the conclusion of the student internship.

Teachers-to-be Have Another Option fights to get there, but rhode island has finally figured out a way to let people teach without first getting a master s degree or a teaching certificate. http://www.childrenfirstamerica.org/DailyNews/04Feb/0216041.htm
Extractions: Providence Journal PROVIDENCE It took some knockdown fights to get there, but Rhode Island has finally figured out a way to let people teach without first getting a master's degree or a teaching certificate. With last night's approval by the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education, Rhode Island joins 46 states that offer an alternative route into the classroom. The authors of the plan say it represents a reasonable compromise between higher education, which originally wanted candidates to enroll in a master's program, and The Education Partnership, which felt that there were too many hurdles for non-traditional candidates to overcome. "Am I completely satisfied with it? No," said Larry Purtill, president of the National Education Association Rhode Island. "But it's something I can live with." Alternative certification isn't for everyone, however. It is open only to those who want to teach in subject areas in which there are shortages, such as math, science and special education.

The state uses its data collections to examine the extent to which the plan's goals are being met. The estimated cost of the plan is $90M over five years. Yes. Rhode Island conducts an annual data collection on education technology. The survey focuses on hardware, connectivity, and teacher training. FINANCIAL COMMITMENT Did state fund technology in FY 98? Does state target technology funds to reduce inequity? How does state help schools update their physical infrastructure? Yes. Rhode Island appropriated $1.5M for technology from the state's general fund in FY 98 and designated another $3.4M for one-time, special legislative grants. In the same year, $3.5M went to schools for technology from two philanthropic groups, the Rhode Island Foundation and the Champlin Foundations. Rhode Island appropriated $3.5M for technology in FY 99; another $4M will come from the same philanthropic sources.
