Extractions: Monday, October 30, 2000 MONTREAT, N.C. The session of Montreat Presbyterian Church has accused the General Assembly Council of a number of "delinquencies" in its response to the 2000 Peacemaking Conference where a Presbyterian minister said other religions provide valid paths to God. The Montreat session concluded that an Oct. 25 response by the council's executive committee to a similar complaint by the session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas did not address the "delinquencies" or provide remedies. That response basically agreed with the theological assertion that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone but concluded that freedom of conscience allowed a Presbyterian minister to say otherwise at the Peacemaking Conference. to warn or bear witness against error in doctrine or immorality in practice in or outside the church by neglecting to correct the keynote address of the Rev. Dirk Ficca. [Ficca, who is executive director of an international inter-faith group that includes neo-pagan religions, asked at one point during his address, "What's the big deal about Jesus?"

Extractions: The literature suggests that while disability is found in all cultures, there is considerable variation in how cultures interpret and address disability. Groce (1999) argues that "the lives of individuals with disability around the world are usually far more limited by prevailing social, cultural, and economic constraints than by specific physical, sensory, psychological or intellectual impairments." Thus, in her view, the social interpretation of disability is the most important factor affecting people with disabilities and "then the issues of interpretation of disability moves from one of health to one of human rights." While this insight is extremely important, it is not widespread in the literature. In the following sections, we will note how much of the literature is taken up in discussion the impairments of people with disabilities and how to provide appropriate services in the context of different cultural communities. Of the identity markers discussed here, while there is still only a small amount of work, race/ethnicity has the largest percentage of the literature in relationship to disability discussed here. This is hardly surprising given that much of the literature addresses disability from an individual and service point of view and is found in very traditional areas associated with disability rehabilitation, special education, counseling, and social work. The vast majority of the literature is from the United States.
NATIVE AMERICAN SPIRITUALITY A general overview of American Indian religions with quotes, essays, and links. http://www.religioustolerance.org/nataspir.htm

Their respect for the wisdom of their elders, their concept of family responsibilities extending beyond the nuclear family to embrace a whole village, their respect for the environment, their willingness to share - all of these values persist within their own culture even though they have been under unremitting pressure to abandon them. " Mr. Justice Thomas Berger, Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry, (aka the Berger Inquiry). " Rather than going to church, I attend a sweat lodge; rather than accepting bread and toast [sic] from the Holy Priest, I smoke a ceremonial pipe to come into Communion with the Great Spirit; and rather than kneeling with my hands placed together in prayer, I let sweetgrass be feathered over my entire being for spiritual cleansing and allow the smoke to carry my prayers into the heavens. I am a Mi'kmaq, and this is how we pray. " Noah Augustine, from his article "

Mysticism In World Religions Focus on one religion. By selecting one of these links you will be able to accesseverything published at this site which pertains to that religion. http://www.digiserve.com/mystic/F_start.html
Extractions: Mysticism is concerned with the nature of reality, the individual's struggle to attain a clear vision of reality, and the transformation of consciousness that accompanies such vision. This site explores the mystical traditions of six religions by comparing and contrasting quotations drawn from their respective literatures. These quotations have been organized by topic as seen below . Because I didn't want to bias the presentation by using terminology unique to a particular religion, I have tried to come up with broad, descriptive names for the topics. Since this site consists of hundreds of web pages, I've also developed a single page called The Short List which includes an illustrative quotation for each topic presented here. Looking over this page will give you a feel for the entire site. If comparative mysticism doesn't appeal to you, feel free to focus on Judaism Christianity Islam/Sufism Hinduism ... Buddhism , or Taoism . By selecting one of these links you will be able to access everything published at this site which pertains to that religion. If you'd prefer to concentrate on an individual mystic rather than a particular topic, check out
