Line of sight VHF and UHF communications is quite difficult in this mountainous region and therefore an effective backbone network had to be established and maintained so packet radio can be used as more than just a point-to-point communications method. I have been a licensed radio amateur since 1984, when I was 12 years old. My father (K8HLB) was very active in those days, and I used to sit in the shack with him and listen as he banged out CW at what seemed like an impossibly fast speed. Thus, my fascination with radio was born. I got my Novice class license (on the second try) and was rewarded with my very own QSL cards. You couldn't tear me away from the shack after that! I quickly earned my General and Advanced class tickets in 1985 and 1986, respectively. In 2000, I earned my Extra class license with 20WPM code. To prepare for the written test, I wrote a little web based application that generated written practice exams. These were designed to closely simulate the real thing. Well, I've spent the last several years refining and improving the online practice tests, and they are the main reason for this site. There are a few other fun and interesting things here, too, so take a few minutes and have a look around. Site News 2003 January 26 February Contest Calendar Wallpaper now available.

All the trainees were participate in it, along with HAMs from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar took part in it. Many senior HAMs like VU2STZ, Sureshbhai from Nadiad, VU2CC, Satishbhai were also present at location. VU2CPV and team gave a nice demo of HF and VHF QSOs, and SWLs enjoyed their modulation test. Mr. Manoj Suthar VU2EHY presented demo of degital mode like SSTV and RTTY. The recent quake that struck the state of Gujarat on January 26th, the 51st republic day of India left the state in shock. Within seconds normal life was thrown out of balance and everything came to a stand still. Communications- a major player in the lives of humans was thrown to the winds.

    Extractions: Very Early Yaesu Musen Co. Amateur Radio Equipment in Australia Japanese electronics engineer Sako Hasegawa, JA1MP, established Yaesu Musen Company during 1959 in the Tokyo suburb of Yaesu. Sako Hasegawa's ambition appears to have been to design and manufacture modern HF single sideband equipment (initially transmitters) for the amateur radio market. Yaesu Musen Co's first product was a crystal controlled monoband 40 metre transmitter, the FL-10/40 . Quickly following on its heels was a 5 band crystal controlled mechanical filter HF transmitter called the FL-20. Finished in grey crackle paint, it featured a built-in power supply, VOX and was only 250 x 380 x 180 mm in size. In Japan the FL-20 sold for 49,800 Yen, equivalent to approximately 62 Australian Pounds in 1963. Above is an extract from a Yaesu Musen Co. ad which appeared in the Japanese CQ Magazine, August 1963 issue. It depicts Yaesu's then current model crystal controlled mechanical filter 5 band HF SSB transmitter, the FL-20 (a Mark 1 version in this case). Note Yaesu's reference to overseas users of their FL-20, particularly VK3YS, Fred Bail, who with his brother Jim Bail, VK3ABA, were soon to introduce Yaesu Musen, and with it cost effective HF single sideband operation, to the Australian radio amateur. Although Fred Bail owned and operated an FL-20, which he purchased from Yaesu Musen Co. while on a visit to Japan in 1963, the FL-20, FL-20A and FL-20B were never sold by Bail's in Australia.
