One theory is that because of the wide spread plundering and desecration of the temples and pyramids many of the later tombs were hidden. The tomb of Tutank Haymen had rich materials such as alabaster, ebony, gold, ivory, and semiprecious stones. Late Period In the Late Period people believed in cat goddesses. The Late Period had strong kings but weak rulers. The People used names from kings to name their babies. The Assyrians created a new native dynasty and ruled for nearly 140 years. Then their rule was over, because the Persian Empire invaded them.

Egyptians believed that death was merely the beginning of a journey to the other world. Pictures on the walls of tombs tell us about the lives of the Pharaohs and their families. We know pyramids were built during a king’s lifetime because hieroglyphs on tomb walls have been found depicting the names of the gangs who built the pyramids for their kings. Furniture and riches were buried with the king so he would have the familiar comforts of his lifetime buried near him. Attendants and wives who died after the king were also buried close to him. These graves of relatives and courtiers can be found on the outskirts of kings’ tombs, lying beside the pyramids. The First Pyramid It was only 150 years later that King Khufu commissioned the building of the largest pyramid of all, the Great Pyramid. This pyramid is the lasting remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the World. Archaeologists continue to look for pieces of this puzzle tofurther our understanding of the Pyramid Age and the pharaohs that ruled Egypt.

Cubes and dodecahedrons have never had the press of the pyramid. Before we investigate some of the more fantastic myths that have attached themselves to pyramids, we should review some of the facts which, to the inquiring mind, are far more fascinating than the fantasies. The heading of this section is the title of the book widely regarded as the definitive work on the topic. Written by I.E.S. Edwards, keeper of Egyptian antiquities at the British Museum from 1955 72, this book presents the facts in a most readable form and is the reference for the archaeological information in this article. Young, and therefore a bit hesitant, sometimes fantastic, tender or even mocking, but already showing the talent of a child prodigy. It is this unexpected Egypt, among others, that was on view at the Grand Palais in Paris last summer before moving on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York until 9 January 2000 and the Royal Museum of Ontario in Toronto from 13 Februrary through 22 May 2000. The exhibition is the result of several decades of fruitful digs at Giza, Saqqara and Meidum, south of Cairo, where the majority of the funerary groupings of the Old Kingdom (2700-2200 BC) can be found. Alongside the work of the archaeologists, recent scholarship has also reexamined earlier notions and allows us to attribute certain works to periods even earlier than had been supposed. The Fourth Dynasty, for example, that of the Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, has thus reacquired a number of statues and reliefs previously thought to be of a later period. Generally speaking, it is the art of the Old Kingdom, considered by the public at large to consist simply of monumental architecture, that has gained in artistic diversity with more intimate works often touching in their humanity.

This enigmatic object, dubbed "the point," has been found in several French Neolithic necropolises. They are possibly objects of power or symbols of prestige. (F. Few realize, however, that millennia before the first pyramids Neolithic peoples in France were constructing huge structures to house their dead and mark territorial boundaries. If this phenomenon is not well known, it is only because these buildings no longer exist. Only aerial photographs have detected their remains. Perhaps because of this, study of the Cerny people, the monument-builders of Neolithic France, is fairly recent. Until 35 years ago, no one had even imagined such a culture existed. The Cerny people were the brilliant intuition of Gerard Bailloud, a director of research at France's National Center for Scientific Research, who in 1964 first hypothesized their existence in the book The Neolithic in the Parisian Basin.
