Writing out assignments will get him used to the idea of keeping track of what's due and when. If your child is not yet able to write, write it for him until he can do it himself. A book bag or backpack will make it easier for your child to carry homework to and from school. Providing homework folders in which your child can tuck his assignments for safekeeping also can help him to stay organized.

Extractions: Donaldson September 2003 Back to School 2003 We have moved through the beginning days of school quite smoothly. Our first grade orientation was held on Thursday, August 21 at 12:00. At this meeting the parents were able to meet with me and some of the other parents, learn about the expectations and procedures in first grade. Parents were asked to share pertinent information concerning their child. The children arrived ready to learn on Wednesday, August 27. And...as they say...the rest is history. To learn more about our class, click on the links below. Internet Projects We will be participating in a number of Internet projects this year. Through many activities we will be learning and sharing information across nation and the world through the Internet. Each project involves activities in many different areas such as Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and of course. Technology! To keep up with our projects, check this link throughout the year. TOP Spelling Our spelling follows the same pattern as many of you remember when you were in school. On Monday (or the first day of the school week) the children are pre-tested on a list of ten words. They copy them three times at home for homework. If your child can spell all of the words on Monday, adaptations will be made on an individual basis. Homework is to be signed by a parent and returned Tuesday morning. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we practice the spelling though workbook pages, worksheets, games and activities in school. Since the spelling words are drawn from the reading, there is also a lot of practice during the reading lessons. The children should review their spelling words each night, Monday through Thursday.
