Erickson Learning Foundation - Facts2 to focus on the other mechanics of writingspelling, punctuation and grammar MISCELLANEOUS homework TIPS. To help your child with his problems in this area, you http://www.erickson-learning.org/elfaddhomework.html
Extractions: Every parent of an A.D.D. child knows what an adventure homework can be! Sending your child to study in his room can be like sending him off to never-never land. Without your help, he might make it to his room but will probably never get started, or if he does, will most certainly never get finished. Before homework can be started the child must know what has been assigned and have ready the necessary materials - textbooks, notebooks, worksheets, etc. This is no small undertaking for a child whose organizational skills may be very poor. Parents need to develop with the teacher, a system for the high disorganized child which he can use with ongoing support and monitoring. It is not surprising that given an inability to organize himself and his belongings, the A.D.D. child is probably going to have difficulty with homework! Without help, he is probably going to have continually messy folders and notebooks, little idea of where to file worksheets and other materials, and a perpetual sense of confusion! If, however, his needs are recognized and he is supported with compensatory strategies like those already suggested, the quality of his work can improve dramatically. If your child's teacher is resistant to these compensatory strategies, be persistent. A child will not learn "responsibility" by being forced to do something he cannot do and then by being punished for his inability to do it. As the child becomes more competent and self-assured, he might be able to gradually assume responsibility (under the watchful eye of his teacher and parent) for some of these "secretarial" skills.
