Other questions and confusions relate to distinctions made between accreditation, certification, licensing and professional organizations. This statement is written to help clarify these matters, particularly as they relate to psychology students, and graduates of the State University of West Georgia. Every region in the United States has an accrediting agency to which colleges, universities, and schools, both public and private, apply when they feel they have met that agency's standards. In the South, this accrediting agency is called the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS); in the West, it is called Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The State University of West Georgia is and has been fully accredited by SACS, as are most of West Georgia's sister institutions, e.g., University of Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Emory, North Georgia, etc. Accreditation by such an agency means that all programs in that institution, such as English, History, Psychology, etc. are fully accredited. Since West Georgia is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, its psychology programs are fully accredited at the regional level.

The Ethiopian school system was in serious need of trained persons to study and handle various academic as well as emotional problems of students and create a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning. In 1974 the Department began its first degree program in Educational Psychology with fifteen students. In 1977, the Department was placed within the College of Social Sciences. Cognizant of the fact that field of psychology is too diverse and broad to be known only by one of its sub-fields, the Department was then named Department of Psychology. However, In 1983/84 the name of the Department was changed to the Department of Educational Psychology and restored under the Faculty of Education. In the last two years, the Department has been seriously reviewing its programs and is now preparing to implement, step by step, the recommendations that emanated from the review.

The PMRC contains both computer and non-computer demonstrations in such areas as animal and human learning, cognition, social psychology, and physiological psychology. Video tape demonstrations describing various aspects of invertebrate learning are also available. The resources and expertise of the PMRC are available to all primary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities in the state of Oklahoma. Two unique features of the PMRC deserve mention. First, the PMRC maintains a training program for any student and faculty who wishes to learn how to use and create their own demonstrations. Second, the resources of the PMRC can be taken on "the road" in the form of the "Psych-Mobile." The Psych-Mobile can make visits to various educational institutions.
