Preparing some special items (a photo in her lunch bag, a note to be read, or some other sign of affection) will help her know how important she is to you. Despite your best efforts, your child may still show fear, anger, or grief at your departure. Experienced caregivers or teachers will acknowledge these feelings while comforting your child. They may also have ready a toy or activity that your child especially enjoys to smooth the transition. For a parent who must leave a crying child, it is often hard to keep this transition in perspective. But before long, most children make excellent adjustments to new settings and begin to enjoy the novelty and excitement of new people and experiences.
