Extractions: Philosophy For over a decade we have been producing a range of publications aimed at different groups engaged in various types of drug use, as well as publications aimed at young people or parents who choose not to use drugs but are living in a world profoundly affected by drug use. Our publications are produced with drug users. We believe this is vital for them to be found accessible and credible by the target audience. The publications can be used in different ways and in a variety of settings. Our aim is to provide credible up-to-date information free from any political agenda or moralising. This on its own will not stop people using drugs, there is no evidence that any form of mass media will do this. However you have to start somewhere. We believe the best way is to be honest and to reflect the world as it is for many people engaged in drug use. If you over exaggerate the risks of all drugs nobody will believe you when there are real dangers. Humour and "offensive" language are used in some of our publications which is both a reflection of real patterns of speech and a way of distancing them from any form of officialdom that is often distrusted by young people.

Ibn Khaldun And Our Age | Turnabout Paper by James Kalb giving a treatment of Khaldun's philosophy of society and its applicability in the modern day. http://jkalb.org/publications/ibn_khaldun_and_our_age.php
Extractions: @import url(misc/drupal.css); Home A slightly edited version of the following essay appeared in issue 20 of The Scorpion Political thinkers engage our attention by their presentation of the particular features of their own time and place as well as the permanent qualities of man in society. We can read Aristotle and Hobbes for general lessons, or for the politics of the Greek city-state and of European society after the wars of religion. As times change so do the thinkers who interest us. Those of our own tradition normally interest us most since they illuminate the succeeding stages of our own social world. That world is always changing, however, sometimes in ways that are not fully continuous with its past but bring it closer in important respects to other civilizations. The conditions that are westernizing the world's East and South also affect Europe and its offspring. World dominion, which orientalized Rome, may end by doing so to us; if so, certain Eastern thinkers will become as relevant as those of the West for understanding the social setting in which we live. Ibn Khaldun
