Extractions: While many people who live in their [Anoles] native range see them as no more than regular pests, everyone else seems to see Anoles as likely candidates for pets. And I personally feel that if you want something as a pet, it's best to know a little bit about it's significance in this world. It'll help you to better understand your new pet. Anoles are very interesting and very fascinating lizards. They are not ordinary, dime a dozen, run of the mill, typical green lizards. They may not be rare, but they are definitely one of the most amazing members of the reptile community. Green and Brown Anoles are different enough between one another to make most Anole keepers satisfied without the need to experiment with more exotic species. Some people prefer Brown Anoles, some people prefer Green Anoles. But each are just as rewarding to observe and learn about. These lizards have been kept as pets for centuries, and documented as such in the US for roughly the past 43 years. They're in a world between instinct and evolution, and they demand to be respected as pure biological wonders. Description: Green Anoles are of the species Anolis carolinensis . They are small, literally green lizards. Males are generally larger than females, both in length and girth. They appear more massive with larger and longer heads. Males are generally a solid color. Females tend to have a light blue-white pattern running down the middle of their back, but this has also been seen on juvenile males. Green Anoles can shift between being green and brown. They can do it when they're cold, when they're ill, stressed, angry, frightened, or sometimes due to lack of light. True common green Anoles are solid green with little or no patterns on them. Similar species that are very closely related are nearly identical to green Anoles, with the exception of some minor pattern and color differences.

Extractions: Choosing a Cage Choosing the proper cage will not only increase your enjoyment of the animal but also play an important role in its health. Ask your pet supplies dealer to recommend the type of cage to use, and tell you how to set it up and equip it with the proper accessories. The pet store owner can also recommend a variety of natural, non-toxic, absorbent shavings and other bedding and nesting materials for small animals. Placement of the cage is important. Since rodents are highly susceptible to chilling and overheating, keep the cage in a well-ventilated room but away from drafts, air conditioning vents, radiators, or windows that are hit by direct sunlight. You should also ensure that other pets, specifically cats or dogs, cannot jab their paws or noses in the cage or otherwise gain access it. Cleaning the Cage It is extremely important to keep the cage hygienically clean because rodent urine is not only unpleasant smelling but also, and more importantly, a primary source of allergens. Although rodents are naturally clean in the wild, when they are confined to a cage, urine and fecal matter accumulate quickly and cause a strong odor. In addition, certain rodents, particularly males that have matured sexually, emit a strong-smelling odor from their scent glands.

Extractions: III. Dogs: Behavior: General Housetraining INDEX You've just gotten a new puppy, and the two of you are about to set out on your most important adventure of all-housebreaking. It may take a few months, but with patience, consistency and praise, you and your pet will come back from the journey victorious. Before you embark, it's good idea to remind yourself that accidents are going to happen. As your puppy grows and develops muscle tone, she will be better able to control herself. Should you see her slip, pick her up and bring her outside or to training papers. Pile on the praise when she concludes her business in the appropriate place. Never rub her nose in it. This will only confuse her. One of the most effective ways to teach your pup where and when to eliminate is the confinement method. First, get her set up in a training crate. This should be her own special den with some toys and a bed or blanket for sleeping. It's imperative that you take her out frequently so she never eliminates in her crate. If you are consistent, your pup will learn to associate her distaste for soiling in her special place with soiling in the house.
Extractions: Contents General Information What to Do if Bitten HomeVet Return to menu. *ENTER SUBTOPIC *ENTER BODYTEXT PARAGRAPH* Return to menu. General Information Rabies is a fatal disease caused by a virus. All warm-blooded animals are susceptible. The disease is usually spread when an infected animal bites another animal or person. The bitten animal or person will not become infected, however, unless the saliva of the sick animal contains the rabies virus at the time of the bite. The bat, skunk raccoon, and fox are the most commonly infected wild animals. Dogs and cats are the most commonly infected domestic animals. Because the signs of rabies vary, diagnosis is very difficult while the animal is alive. The only positive diagnosis is by laboratory examination of the brain. Early in the disease, affected animals may show a slight change in behavior or temperament. As the disease progresses, the animal becomes restless and excitable, and may have a tendency to roam or eat unusual objects. The animal then may have trouble swallowing and may begin to drool excessively. Frequently the animal becomes vicious. Convulsions may occur and are usually fatal. Some animals do not die in convulsions, but instead suffer paralysis of the lower jaw. Shortly after this, the paralysis spreads over the body and death occurs. This is called "dumb" rabies.

Spiny Mouse General Pet Care And Maintenance Information. Spiny Mouse pet care and Maintenance information. Spiny mice are incredibly simple animals to care for, and require no specialized http://www.pogstarhedgehogs.com/spinymice/s_care.html
Extractions: Spiny Mouse Pet Care and Maintenance Information Spiny mice are incredibly simple animals to care for, and require no specialized care or maintenance, other than their need to be protected from low temperatures or severe drafts. Being natural desert creatures, Spiny mice do best with a low humidity level and in temperatures ideally no lower than 75 degrees, and certainly no lower than 65 degrees at any time. Probably the most ideal cage for these mice is a good sized aquarium with a tight fitting lid, and this is especially a good idea if they are being kept in a location where temperature may be a concern. A reptile heater can be attached to the bottom or back of an aquarium to provide radiant heat, and the glass sides naturally help to protect against cool draft. Two mice can comfortably live in a 10 gallon, but for any more than that a 20 long aquarium would be a better size. You can, of course, go even larger, just remember that length and width is far more useful than height to them. Under no circumstances should a single spiny mouse be kept as a pet. They are extremely social animals who naturally live in large groups and are very socially interactive. At the very least, two animals can do quite well together and require no more care or space than one would. The added benefit of keeping two or more mice together, beyond their happiness and health, is getting to watch the wide range of fascinating social interactions that take place between them. With their extremely social nature, two males can even be kept together quite comfortably if introduced at a young age, and almost any combination of mice will live happily together if introduced into neutral territory (a clean cage with fresh bedding) and given plenty of space.
