Time.com People Fortune EW WASHINGTON (CNN) The following is a statement issued by a State Department official Saturday night regarding the missionary plane downing in Peru: According to a State Department official, yesterday, April 20, a Peruvian Air Force aircraft shot down a private airplane carrying an American missionary family and their American pilot in northern Peru near the Colombian border. The plane was heading to the Peruvian town of Iquitos, having earlier departed from the town of Leticia in Columbia. It was mistaken for an airplane transporting contraband drugs. Of the four family members, the mother and infant daughter were killed. The father and son were not injured, while the pilot was wounded in the leg. Consulate officials from our embassy in Lima have gone to the area and are assisting them. We are very saddened by this tragic incident and extend our sympathies and our condolences to the families, their friends, and relatives. We are doing everything possible to help them in coping with their difficult situation. U.S. embassy personnel joined the father and son as they flew to Iquitos on a Peruvian government aircraft. The pilot has been receiving treatment for his leg injury in a clinic near the site of their downed airplane.

Time.com People Fortune EW LIMA, Peru (CNN) A top Peruvian judge issued an international warrant Thursday for the arrest of Alberto Fujimori, but it appeared doubtful the warrant would be honored by Japan, where the former president of Peru is in self-imposed exile. Supreme Court Judge Jose Luis Lecaros declared Fujimori an absent criminal for failing to appear before him to answer charges that he abandoned the duties of his office. Fujimori left for Japan in November after a corruption scandal involving his former security chief, Vladimiro Montesinos, who is now in jail. He tried to resign the presidency by sending a note from Japan, but Congress did not accept it, and instead declared him morally unfit to govern. The judicial system is requesting he be sent by Japan back to Peru. MORE STORIES Big Picture: Change in Peru Because Fujimori's parents are from Japan, he has been granted citizenship there. Japan does not extradite nationals and has no extradition treaty with Peru.
Sacsayhuaman Illustrated description by Robert Scheer of this Inca fortress in peru constructed from gigantic stones weighing up to 300 tons. From the Sacred Places Directory. http://www.newagetravel.com/info/sacsay.htm
Extractions: Sacsayhuaman Text and photos by Robert Scheer The ancient city of Cusco, Peru, was laid out in the shape of a stylized puma, and Sacsayhuaman is at its head. As a matter of fact, another name for Sacsayhuaman is Saca Huma, which means the head of a puma. Although it sounds like "sexy woman", Sacsayhuaman is Quechua for "satisfied falcon," a name that refers to the carrion-eating birds that feasted on the dead after a hideous battle was fought here in 1536, when Spanish invaders annihilated the defending Inca forces. Now, Sacsayhuaman is the site of Cusco's largest annual festival, Inti Raymi, (seen in photo at the left) held during the June 21st winter solstice. Three parallel walls, built in a zig-zag pattern, were part of the defensive fortress, and correspond to the teeth of the puma. Sacsayhuaman is noted for its irregularly-shaped, gargantuan stone blocks, one of which weighs more than 300 tons. They are fitted together without mortar, and the ones now remaining have withstood not only attempts by the Spanish to knock them down, but also more than half a millennium of earthquakes and other natural forces. Pictured at the right is an entrance near which a serpent pattern is carved into the rock. Almost exactly the same size as the human brain and spinal column, this carving is believed to represent the seven chakras, and it is said that the seven gouged-out areas were once filled with gold, crystals and gemstones.
