Smart, and Gibbs M. Smith Amazon base price: Buy one from zShops for: Average review score: Spend your money on environmental writing with substance. Mediocre, with a few moments of good writing, but the entire theme is contrived. Spend your money on real environmental writing, for example Paul Shepard and Jerry Mander. Thought provoking and spiritually stimulating. For anyone. Although the contributors to this book are all Mormons the plea they make is universal. Our ties to God's creations are real. We derive emotional and spiritual strength from them. The earth is given to us as a stewardship from God, to use, but also to protect and "replenish". The contributors cite personal examples to explain their interpretation of this "stewardship." I recommend this book! Extractions: : : Sandy : Reincarnation is, ultimately, opposed to christianity. the Bible says that we have to die once after which the judgment will come. Reincarnatiotheories are therefore quite dangerous. You might say: well, this is my 32nd life, let's try Buddhism for a change. But when you meet Jesus, you might find out that you have made the wrong choice and it is your one and only life. It is not at all important to know as much as possible about religions or theories. As Lewis once put it, we are not concerned with what we think of Christ, but what Christ thinks of us. That is crucial. : I do recognise the uncertainty you talk about. Nevertheless, the Bible does say that once you have professed your belief in Christ's salvation, you ARE a new creation from that moment. I have difficulty understanding this text, still, it is the fundament of my belief. : David

Extractions: As we struggle and grow throughout our lives as Christians, we alone know the nature of our relationship with God and the welfare of our spiritual lives. As Christians, we endeavor to learn what is pleasing to God, to understand his purpose for us, and to love others as Christ loved us. Unfortunately, as we take our walk with Christ, we are going to have other "Christians" some well-meaning and others not, judging us and telling us what our relationship with God is, whether it is where it should be, and what we should do so we can be right with God...according to them. Even when we as Christians all seem to use the same scriptures and writings to understand our God, we still seem to come up with different ideas about how to read and use these scriptures and writings to live our lives in a manner pleasing to our Creator. Our Creator sent His Son to the world not only to die for our sins, but as an example for us to follow. By understanding the message of Jesus Christ, we are able to better understand our Creator and the Will of our Creator. By understanding His Will, at least in part, we can live our lives in a manner which we think is in accordance with that Will. We all must do this, and we all are accountable for how well we do this, or at least how hard we attempt to do this. And it is not suppose to be hard. We are not suppose to beat ourselves over the head about how lowly and sinful we are...we are not the scum of our Creator's Universe, so there is no reason for us to to act like we are. "For God so loved the world...," remember. He is with us always, even until the end.... The secret is to stop worrying about having "religion" and start trying to have a relationship with your Creator. Make it a "father/son or father/daughter thing."

Extractions: God does not want our "religion"................... Category:(Religious) Created:(4/14/2002 2:44:00 PM) Viewed (447 times) God never created "religion". Man did, human beings, who tried to get to God through following a "religion". God does not care, if we are Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Penecostal, Ect, Ect. God created us to have a personal relationship with him, but our human nature prevented this, through a curse called "sin ". God gave us our own free will to choose to obey or dis-obey. Maybe it seems mean to some that we had a choice, why could God not just make us all perfect like a "computer" and program us a certain way? But then we would not have an option to love him, we would just be "programed" to love God and that would not be true love.
