Nationwide, these officers supervise more than 4.5 million adults who are on probation and parole and with more than 600,000 juvenile offenders who are under community supervision. These officers work diligently, with limited resources, to ensure public safety, provide services to victims, and hold offenders accountable. Public safety is their first and foremost concern. Arizona and the Mohave County Probation Department is especially proud of Chief Probation Officer, Rod Marquardt (below), who was honored by the Arizona Chief Probation Officers Association as Supervisor/Manager of the Year, 2002. In September 1977, the Superior Court Presiding Judge, discerning unusual leadership talent in Marquardt, appointed him Chief Probation Officer, a position he has loyally and competently held ever since. His 25 year tenure, leading a combined juvenile and adult probation department, makes him the dean of Chief Probation Officers and Directors of Juvenile Court Services in the state of Arizona. Beginning with a staff numbering slightly more than a dozen people, he now leads more than 125. Integrity, honesty, trust, service to community and concern for people are the values Marquardt lives by, but they are also the values he has diligently built into the mission and work of the department he leads.
