Extractions: Papua New Guinea Papua New Guinea is a raw land, remarkably untamed and as variegated as swamp and jagged limestone; mud and moss forest; suffocating heat and Highland chill; plumed, pearl-shelled villagers and prosaic hill people; tiny tree kangaroos and enormous Queen Alexandra Birdwing butterflies. Today, the country attracts bad press, and although much of it is scare-mongering, it is wise to remember that PNG is subject to the same problems - urban unemployment, a rising crime rate and environmental exploitation - facing many emerging nations. Remember also that the tourist infrastructure of PNG is only in its infancy and that accommodation can be expensive, transportation limited and the food uninspiring. This is a destination for travellers who care more for the untramelled adventure than for home comforts. Petty crime, banditry and isolated instances of violence remain the principal risks to travelling in Papua New Guinea, much of it concentrated in Port Moresby and some other urban centres in the Highlands province. Recent outbreaks of ethnic violence have occurred in the Takara settlement, just outside of Lae, and in the Port Moresby suburb of Gerehu. Isolated disturbances in the Southern Highlands make it a good idea to check consular advice before travelling in this area.

The proceeds of this CD go to the protection of the forest in Papua New Guinea. For more information regarding this project, refer to the following website for updated information on their progress: B: Describe to the reader how you developed this idea for a compilation. Why are you so passionate about the plight of the people of Papau New Guinea? C: Everything began in December 1994, when I decided to go some times in Papua New Guinea (PNG) after a very bad year. During this time, I had totally lost savour of things and everything around me crumbled. The only thing, that I still wanted, was to go so far to be alone opposite to myself. In a newspaper I saw an article about New Britain (an island in PNG) and my last wish was at this moment to see this place before dying. B: How did you select the artists to appear on the compilation?
UNFPA In Asia & The Pacific: Demographic Trends With increasing support from governments, international organizations and NGOs, there has been of HIV/AIDS ranges from 0.6 per cent in papau new guinea to 0.07 http://www.unfpa.org/asiapacific/demographics.htm
Extractions: HOME WORLDWIDE Demographic Trends Overview ... Resources Demographic Trends by Subregion East and southeast Asia UNFPA has programmes in the following East and Southeast Asian countries Young people (under 25 years) constitute a sizeable and growing proportion of the population and their reproductive health concerns are a major issue, especially in view of the spreading HIV/AIDS pandemic. The large ageing population is emerging as an area of concern. Declining fertility and increasing longevity mean that the number of older people is getting larger relative to those in their working years. Several of these countries have witnessed marked improvements in the areas of health, nutrition and education. However, some continue to grapple with low per capita income, rapid urbanization, inadequate access to quality reproductive health services, high rates of infant and maternal mortality and high rates of abortions. Gender inequity, gender-based violence and trafficking of women and children continue to be serious issues. South and west Asia UNFPA has programmes in the following South and West Asian countries Afghanistan * Bangladesh * Bhutan * India *The Islamic Republic of Iran * Maldives * Nepal * Pakistan * Sri Lanka In 2001, the population of the South and West Asia subregion exceeded 1.5 billion, and is expected to increase to 2.5 billion or more by 2050. Thus, every fourth person in the world today is from South or West Asia.
