The Ogden Wayside Rest Area, also north of Redmond, allows visitors to view the 500 foot deep Crooked River Gorge, as well as breathtaking vistas of two of Oregon's highest mountains, Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson. F ishing is a favorite pasttime in Redmond. Nearby lakes include Billy Chinook, Suttle, and Blue lakes, as well as the Ochoco, Haystack and Prineville reservoirs. Rafting is always a thrill on the Deschutes River, along with swimming and fishing for summer steelhead and rainbow trout. Along the Cascade Lakes Highway, there are many lakes available for fishing for brook, brown and rainbow trout. R edmond is close to Mt. Bachelor, which has several prime skiing areas for alpine and cross country skiers. The season usually starts around Thanksgiving, and lasts well into spring. The Hoodoo Ski Bowl, 45 minutes from Redmond, has night skiing available.
