Extractions: "Working in the criminal justice area is challenging and exciting for both me and our students. On a daily basis we confront a host of problems relating to crime, the trial process, and the role of law enforcement in a free society. We consider questions such as protection of privacy under the search and seizure provision of the Constitution, the implications of the privilege against self-incrimination, the right to confront one's accusers, and the broad-based need for representation in criminal cases. The questions are tough, the answers can be quite troubling. In addition, numerous ethical issues occur regularly in class. We wonder how the defense counsel can represent the 'guilty' client. Students ask how far a prosecutor can go in trying a difficult case; we consider the role of the judge in ensuring that both sides are fairly and adequately represented."

Contents: table of laws explanation of table types of speed limits laws giving official tolerance to minor speeding ... other sources The state name is a link to the traffic laws of the state, or maybe to the general legislative information page, or maybe to the state home page. If the state doesn't have useful information online or I got tired of typing there is no link. If there is a link in the "limit" column it points to information about speed limits in the state: a summary I wrote, the relevant law, or an official DOT web page. For some states I have included links to an online driver's manual. These manuals are not laws and may contain incorrect statements of law. If you have CSS enabled in your browser, the more anti-speed laws should show up with red borders. See also the " keep right " law list. Many states have laws requiring vehicles to slow to 20 MPH below the speed limit when passing a stopped emergency vehicle; see the "move over" law list (external site).

Extractions: Attorney at Law It would be very convenient if all state and federal codes, statutes, and caselaw were available on the World Wide Web. This would give lay people easy access to the laws that they must follow and it would allow attorneys to do legal research without having to leave their office to go to a law library, or pay for expensive collections of casebooks. Unfortunately, economic realities dictate that we may never see all of the substantive law of all the states on the Web. Several states receive quite a bit of income by selling the exclusive rights to publish that state's caselaw. In addition, it is quite expensive to publish and maintain a web site, and money for such a project is not available in all states. Caselaw on the Web ideally would include decisions from at least the last 30 years, a sophistocated search engine for locating relevant law, case summaries, headnotes, etc. Providing all of these on a Web site would be very expensive. Given the above, it is impressive how much substantive law
