SHELBY COUNTY TO RECEIVE CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES Washington, DC On September 26, Congressman Ken Lucas (KY-4) announced grant awards for Ohio Valley Educational Foundation (OVEF) an early, continuous, intensive and comprehensive child development and family support service administered on a year-round basis to families in need with children from birth to twelfth grade. Lucas stated, "I am proud of the work that OVEF has done, and I am extremely pleased we were able to secure this funding. OVEFs programs really make a difference in our communities. These funds will provide great assistance to the OVEF and their work on behalf of families in the region and throughout the state." The Ohio Valley Educational Foundation will establish the Ohio Valley Parental Information and Resources Center (OVPIRC). The goal of the Ohio Valley Parental Information and Resource Center Program is to provide regional and statewide support of parents to enhance their involvement in their childrens education. Specifically the OVPIRC will utilize research based curriculum to 1) help parents learn to accept their role as their childs teacher, 2) help parents understand appropriate expectations for their children, 3) teach parents how to engage their children in quality interactions on a daily basis, 4) teach parents how to access community resources, 5) teach parents skills to improve home/school communication, and 6) help parents increase their involvement in the planning, review and improvement of school policies and programs.
