Extractions: INDUSTRY LEADERS - INTERFACE MANAGEMENT CRITICAL Higher spending profiles, production rates heighten impact on IM, drive changes for how industry plans, executes complex, multinational projects HOUSTON (May 3, 2004) The advent of mega, multinational offshore projects in the last decade, and the relative lack of success for the timely, within-budget delivery of these projects, finds industry grappling with how to bring a sense of balance to the planning and execution of these developments, in terms of effective planning, risk allocation and conflict resolution. Many in industry have determined that more effective interface management (IM) meaning the proactive avoidance or mitigation of any project issues, including design conflicts, installation clashes, new technology application and regulatory challengeswould support the successful delivery of megaprojects. Industry leaders discussed the merits of IM, and its application to current offshore projects, at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston today. Marine Sciences Program At Avery Point - University Of Connecticut Combines teaching at the Avery Point campus together with opportunities for involvement in research projects in biological and chemical oceanography. http://www.marinesciences.uconn.edu/academic/physical.html
Extractions: A common thread of their various research interests is an emphasis on understanding fluid dynamics in the coastal environment, but the collective expertise of the group touches on a wide range of physical oceanographic phenomena. As a result, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the department gain a broad exposure to the essential subdisciplines of physical oceanography in addition to their in-depth research training. As well as continued sea-going observational work facilitated by the new R/V Connecticut , our research techniques include numerical circulation simulations, inverse modeling, analytical and theoretical studies, laboratory experiments, the development of in-situ instruments, and satellite data analysis. Graduate study in physical oceanography at UConn combines quality teaching in the comfortable and personalized setting of the Avery Point campus together with opportunities for involvement in a variety of outstanding research projects. Our integration with the other strengths of the department in biological and chemical oceanography gives us a unique flavor among physical oceanography graduate programs.

Ocean Surface Topography From Space-Missions an oceanography mission to monitor global ocean circulation, discover the tie between the oceans and atmosphere, improve global climate predictions, and monitor events such as El Ni±o conditions and ocean eddies. The Jason1 satellite carries a radar altimeter and it is a follow-on mission to the highly successful TOPEX/Poseidon mission. It is joint mission between France and USA. The satellite will be launched in May 2000. http://topex-www.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/jason-1.html
Extractions: @import url( "../main.css" ); + View the NASA Portal OVERVIEW SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ... Jason-1 is the first follow-on to the highly successful TOPEX/Poseidon mission that measured ocean surface topography to an accuracy of 4.2 cm, enabled scientists to forecast the 1997-1998 , and improved understanding of ocean circulation and its effect of global climate. The joint NASA- CNES program will launch a French spacecraft on an American Delta II from an American base. Like TOPEX/Poseidon, the payload will include both American and French instruments. Jason-1 altimeter data will be part of a suite of data provided by other JPL-managed ocean missionsthe GRACE mission will use two satellites to accurately measure Earth's mass distribution, and the QuikSCAT scatterometer mission will measure ocean-surface winds.
