Welcome To Very Best Kids A real look luck, but if the candle remained lit, a year Yet children year after year recitethese stories, not Title History of nursery rhymes http://allsands.com/History/Objects/historynursery_nu_gn.htm
Extractions: Welcome to Very Best Kids! Sign In or Join Now History of nursery rhymes Everyone grew up with the well-known set of nursery rhymes, such as Jack and Jill, or Peter Peter, Pumpkin Eater, and all the others. The visual imagery invoked by these stories is vivid, such as three blind mice running away from a madwoman with a knife, while Jack made a wild leap over a flaming candle. Best of all for wild imagery, however, would have to be Hey Diddle Diddle. But these nursery rhymes, most of them, came from historical events or situations. Most of the most popular ones came from British politics, in fact, and were invented as a way of spreading gossip about royalty. And while these rumors and stories have no bearing on our lives anymore, the rhymes they produced have lived on in our lives. bodyOffer(602) Mind you, a lot of these histories are subject to interpretation. Every rumor about where a story came from is just that, another rumor. You may have heard different stories of where these started, and you may be right. Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater

Extractions: Gordie Little: "Small Talk" Kaye and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on May 4 at a local restaurant that requires us to climb stairs. I need the exercise. Kayes in great shape. This year we invited our friends, Ron and Millie Sears from Cadyville. What do you suppose comprised the erudite table talk for the evening? I knew you wouldnt guess it. You dont know me very well, do you? Nursery rhymes. Thats what we hung our conversational hats upon. And it spilled over to dessert and coffee at our house afterward. I had an ulterior motive. I had planned to use the information for this column and they became unwitting participants in one of my infamous, informal surveys. I started by asking them how many nursery rhymes they could remember. I was thrilled and amazed. They recalled dozens. It became a hilarious parlor game. One would start a rhyme and another would finish. I had tried it earlier with Kaye, whose mind is jam-packed with rhymes she learned as a little girl from her school-teacher mother and later in the course of raising her multitudinous children. Other friends knew only a few. I dont know about the rest of them, but I had a wonderful evening, gathering tons of fodder for my folly. It started when our kids were small. One of them would start the day out of sorts, as we all do from time to time. Kaye would refer to them as "cross patch." All these years and I had no clue what that meant or where it came from.

The songs were recorded by a BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) Agent in 1910, in the White Mountains area, just off the Clear Fork River. The name of the Apache Medicine Man whose songs these belong to is long dead. As is Lipan custom, his name is not allowed to be spoken in public. Permission to use these three Apache songs was given to me by a modern-day Lipan Medicine Man."

Parents and educators who are curious about news and issues in Children's Literature may wish to consult The Children's Book Council or About.com's Books for Kids . Since it is expensive and time consuming to produce, host and keep track of digital documents, some of these sites will disappear, though I have tried to pick among those which appear to be stable. However, I am constantly looking for new collections. Since our shelving system will be evolving toward something less primitive and more intuitively researchable, I will occasionally break a multi-topic site into its logical components. You will note that in the DOCU-STACKS, our links are set to display URLs. Here is our entire stack list, linking library patrons to nearly a million and a half online documents.
