Extractions: About Berkeley Academics Admissions Finances ... Corporate Services New York City Campus There's no better place to experience the energy of the business world than in New York City. Established in 1936, the New York City campus of Berkeley College has more than 1,700 day, evening, and weekend students earning degrees and certificates. Berkeley's two buildings are on the East side of 43rd and 44th Streets, between 5th and Madison, just a block and a half from Grand Central Station, providing easy access to subways, trains, and buses. When it comes to culture, New York City is beyond compare. Within easy reach of the College are museums, Broadway theaters, concerts, ballet, opera, libraries, churches, historic sites, and much more. Public transportation quickly brings students to Wall Street, Greenwich Village, Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, Central Park, famous Fifth Avenue shops, the United Nations, amusement areas, and world-renowned landmarks. New York's diverse neighborhoods, fine restaurants, clubs, street festivals, and year-round special events add an extra dimension to the college experience. The diversity of students who come to the New York City campus from different backgrounds, nationalities, and lifestyles is as distinguished as the area. The Facilities When students step into the 43rd Street entrance of the impressive seven-story main building, they see that the first-floor administrative offices and the reception area, as well as the lounge on the mezzanine, still capture the charm of St. Christopher's Chapel, which previously occupied the space.

Extractions: In an effort to respond to a strike by city day care workers, the city issued emergency day care certificates to 27,000 low-income parents who rely on 350 subsidized centers. The city says it will reimburse parents for part or all of the cost of alternate care, but still thousands of parents struggled to find other child care options or skipped work. Yesterday, some 7,000 day care workers, who have been without a contract since 2000, marched across the Brooklyn Bridge demanding more pay. City officials reportedly offered workers a raise of three percent this year and two percent next year. The union, who wants a nine percent retroactive increase, rejected the offer. The strike was scheduled to last three days, but organizers said they may extend it. Another strike ended yesterday, as home health aides went back to work after a three day protest. But leaders of 1199/S.E.I.U., New York's largest health-care union, said they would hold periodic strikes throughout the summer if they fail to get a new contract.
