SPECIAL EDUCATION the student s IEP (Individualized education Plan of the IEP should involve parent, student, teacher The new jersey Core Curriculum Standards dictate curriculum http://www.pvhs.k12.nj.us/special education.htm
Extractions: RESOURCE CENTER Grades 9 - 12 Resource Room classes are small in design, with no more than nine students in one class. The staff teaching in the Resource Room are specially trained professionals, certified as Teachers of the Handicapped. Students are eligible for Resource Room through teacher or parent recommendations to the CST (Child Study Team) and meeting eligibility criteria in the New Jersey Administrative Code (section 6:14-3.5). The Child Study Team consists of a learning specialist (LDTC), psychologist, and a social worker. In the Resource Room we try to increase the opportunity for individualization within the class. The Resource Room's small size maximizes the teacher's ability to accommodate the student's IEP (Individualized Education Plan). The design of the IEP should involve parent, student, teacher, and CST input and direction. The New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards dictate curriculum content preparing the student for graduation. The Resource Room aspires toward the completion of this content, but works at the pace of the individual student. Some students need more time or more focus on specific areas. Others may need more challenging work. Some may require different approaches to learning. All of the above will be strategically pursued in the best interest of the individual and the class. The new N.J. Standards include a section on Workplace Readiness. All subjects in the resource room should utilize real-life application and be presented in a format related to the student's life, environment, and employment.
