McLean is the first winner of the Teaching Excellence honor, which differs from other recognition programs in that candidates are nominated by their colleagues. The stringent standards for the $25,000 award include demonstrating outstanding instructional practice, advocacy for the profession and for public education, effective community engagement, and attention to diversity. It's a long list of extremely high standards, and McLean excelled at every level. She is the 2001 Nevada Teacher of the Year and in 2000, she was among the first Nevada teachers to achieve National Board Certification, the teaching profession's highest credential. How to File for NYS Certification through the Interstate Agreement New York has interstate contracts with more than 30 other states and jurisdictions. As outlined in the Interstate Agreement of Qualification of Educational Personnel, a person prepared in one of the contract states who meets the conditions of the contract is eligible for Initial certification in New York. The conditions are either (1) completion of an approved program of teacher preparation or (2) possession of a valid certificate in the contract state and service under that certificate in three of the most recent seven years. In addition, applicants must obtain qualifying scores on the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations to obtain an Initial Certificate.
