Student Transitions Initiatives State Higher education Initiatives. To Support Student Transitions K16. A SHEEO E-Mail Survey. Extractions: Last updated October 2000 In 1997, as part of a SHEEO initiative on state strategies to support student transitionsK-16, SHEEO conducted a survey asking states to identify initiatives sponsored by their agencies that support early outreach and preparation for college. That information was reported in a 1998 publication, Statewide College Admissions, Student Preparation and Remediation Policies and Programs. To update state initiatives, in May 2000, SHEEO conducted an e-mail survey asking state higher education agencies to respond to the following questions: Does your agency sponsor a formal effort to link K-12 and postsecondary education (K-16 or related initiative)? What is the name of the initiative and provide a brief description. When did the initiative begin? If information on the state initiative is available on a website, provide the specific website address. The following is a summary of responses. Alabama K-16 Initiative: The Alabama Commission on Higher Education has been working with the governor's office on a P-16 initiative to link all levels of education through a tutorial program and summer institute. Funding for the tutorial program was included in the governor's budget recommendations to the legislature. The budget has not been finalized.

Washoe County School Transition nevada, the Washoe County School District, and the nevada University Center for partof their workday without direct supervision from special education staff. http://repc.unr.edu/UCED/washoeTransition/
Extractions: Nevada University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities The University and Community College System of Nevada, the Washoe County School District, and the Nevada University Center for Excellence in Disabilities entered into an agreement that permits WSCD to utilize facilities at UNR to conduct a transition program for special education students who are 18 to 22 years of age. The purpose of this program is to provide work and social experiences to the special education students in an age appropriate inclusive setting. Participating students will learn valuable work skills by being placed in non-paid employment training sites in various departments on campus. The students will also have the opportunity to improve their social skills by interacting with UNR students. The structure of the campus job-training component of the Student Transition Program is such that students will be expected to eventually travel across campus independently and train at job sites for part of their workday without direct supervision from special education staff. Before being placed into the program, Washoe County School District personnel complete a checklist and answer pertinent questions that provide information that helps to ensure the students' safety, acceptance, and success on campus. The job-training and community based components of this program are designed to provide experiences that will assist students in learning skills needed for transitioning to post-school life. Job skills, mobility skills and community access skills will be taught and practiced in natural environments outside the classroom setting. Instruction will take place at various sites on the UNR campus and in the community.
Early Head Start Support with regard to employment, education, and parenting First, nevada UCED personnelmodel best practice Third, UCED staff provides accessible and understandable http://repc.unr.edu/UCED/headStart/
Extractions: Nevada University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded program for children from zero to three years of age and their families. The program offers families below poverty level home-based and center-based services designed to help each child reach their full potential. This is an important mission because children living at or below poverty level are at significantly higher risk for developmental delay and disability than other children, and EHS services help prevent or overcome those risks. In addition to child-centered programming, EHS also seeks to support families to reach their own goals with regard to employment, education, and parenting while honoring each family's own culture and values. In Nevada, EHS centers are located in Elko, Ely, Las Vegas, and Reno. Robbin Hickman
