This discussion group is made up of homeschooling parents of children with disabilities that affect their strength or coordination, such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, or other conditions of the muscles, nervous system or joints. Although some of our children have other disabilities, and we are happy to discuss those when relevant, we focus on the ones that impair their gross and fine motor skills. We especially focus on homeschooling and dealing with the disabilities in that context. Anyone who wishes to join our discussion should e-mail HSPhysDis@aol.com Language Based Learning Disability . The Dana Foundation Consortium has created a novel remediation training program that attacks the basic deficiency that we believe usually underlies language-learning impairments (LLIs). Welcome To Great Valley School District on Wednesday January 21st called An Overview of Tests Given to Identify Children with special Education needs, both Learning disabled and Gifted http://www.gvsd.org/inthenews/inthenewsarchives.html
Extractions: Assessment is the process of gathering information about a student in order to make decisions about his or her education. One kind of assessment procedure is testing. In addition to basic school testing, various other kinds of tests are used to help identify students who may be gifted and/or have learning disabilities. These are formal and informal/natural assessments that may be administered in such areas as cognition, motor skills, social/emotional skills, self-help/adaptive skills and speech and language development. GVSD school psychologist Micheal DiPietro will be giving a presentation on Wednesday January 21st called "An Overview of Tests Given to Identify Children with Special Education Needs, both Learning Disabled and Gifted" This presentation will cover what kinds of tests are given in our district, how they are administered, who administers them and what we do with the results. The presentation will take place at GVSD District Office on Church Rd. in Malvern from 7 to 9:00 p.m.
State: Disabled Are Top Voucher Users program is named after Senate President John McKay, who wanted parents of disabled children to be able to find the best school for their child s special needs. http://www.sptimes.com/2002/09/13/State/Disabled_are_top_vouc.shtml
Extractions: published September 13, 2002 School voucher programs are expected to divert about $56-million from Florida public schools to private schools this year, roughly twice the amount spent last year. But relatively few students are using the most controversial vouchers. The vast majority of the money is going to the McKay Scholarship program for disabled children, a program often overshadowed by the state's original voucher program for children at public schools deemed failures by the state. The McKay program has attracted more than 7,000 children this year, and state officials expect the number to be close to 8,000 as additional applications are processed. That would amount to nearly a two-fold increase over last year.

Post-Crescent - Learnings Costly Curve Part of the solution may be labeling fewer students as disabled. mississippi. specialeducation research is not rigorous or coordinated enough to support http://www.wisinfo.com/postcrescent/news/archive/local_4981028.shtml
Extractions: Post-Crescent staff writer Freedom made the commitment to ensure all children equal access to a public education well before state and federal governments made it law in the early 1970s, he said. Yet, in times of tight budgets there is no denying the mounting cost of educating everyone from the blind, deaf and medically fragile to children with cognitive and emotional disabilities and speech delays. While Congress considers reauthorizing the 28-year-old law now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), area school systems are picking up the bulk of the bill for an ever-growing number of special-education children. Two dozen Fox Valley school districts spent more than $62 million in district, state and federal dollars in the 2000-01 school year to educate 7,597 students with disabilities, according to the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute. In the coming school year, Freedom, with a total enrollment of 1,590, will spend $1.9 million of its $12.2 million operational budget educating 215 children with disabilities.
