You're always welcome to just come in, kick your shoes off, take the comfy chair in the corner and stay as long as you please. I'm sure you have asked yourself "Why have a gay marching band?" Well , I'll answer that with yet another question, "Why not?" I know , as a teenager, the one place I felt at home in school was the band room. All the band members were my family. I mean, lets get real! No matter what, we were ALL geeks....BAND geeks. So why not be surrounded by gay band geeks? And of course, we do not limit our membership to Lesbians or Gays. We welcome all who miss the excitement of lining up in the streets waiting to hear that roll-off whistle. This band was started back in 1987 by a female drummer who was (and still is) known for being bodacious. This woman wanted to play drums in her high school band, but couldn't ... not because she was female, but because her high school had cut the funding for the band, so there wasn't one. In protest one Friday night during what would have been the half time show she strapped herself to a bass drum , marched to the 50 yard line, stood there alone and played.......

The drumline, rehearsing on the field at the G-West Rehearsal Facility, decided to ask Joe to "Try This!" for his weekly segment on the evening news. more info NEWS HEADLINES A LITTLE BIT OF RHYTHM Kevin and Carol Girard haven't had much quiet time in the past week. On Memorial Day, nine competitive drummers from Washington, Oregon, Alabama and Arizona moved into their four-bedroom home to prepare for upcoming summer competitions. The drummers are living and sleeping at the Girards' Kennewick home until they leave Friday for the start of their tour with the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. more info REVOLUTION INACTIVE FOR 2004 - The administrative staff and board of directors of Revolution YPA have decided that Revolution will take this summer of competition off. We will still run a small group of performers for the Sea World and local performances in the summer of 2004 to remain active and involved in the community.

The purpose of the "PRIDE" is to provide entertainment at football games, parades, and almost any NMSU event. The "PRIDE" hosts a major marching band competition in the fall. High school bands come from all parts of the Southwest to compete in the Tournament of Bands. The competition lasts all day, with a final competition at night. Extractions: The University of Connecticut Marching Band is the largest, most spirited organization on campus. The musicians, color guard members, and twirlers that make up the band contribute their talent unity , and pride to continue a long tradition of musical and marching excellence that belongs to the UCMB. Performances by the band are full of visual and musical excitement. The UCMB combines exciting contemporary drill, musical and percussion features, majorette and color guard spotlights, and powerful unison presentation into a spectacular , entertaining show. Musical selections include special arrangements of popular rock, jazz, swing, show and drum corps favorites. Those who have seen the UCMB in action see why the band is called the "Pride of Connecticut". Over the years the UCMB has performed at a wide variety of exciting events. In addition to pre-game and half time performances at UCONN football games, the band also exhibitions at several high school band competitions around the state each season. In addition, past bands have performed at several special events, including many NFL games, the 1996 World Series, and the 1993 Presidential Inaugural Parade. These events have allowed the band to gain recognition beyond its already great reputation in the State of Connecticut. Of course, it is the hard working members and staff which makes the UCMB great. Band members are a true cross section of the university, representing every field of study at UCONN. Many members also hold positions in the important and extensive student leadership structure. On and off the field, UCMB members are the embodiment of UCONN Husky Spirit. Of course, it is the great friendships and experiences that members take with them for the rest of their lives. The UCMB is more than just a band; it is a large, close knit family in which all members take great pride.

The seminar is a gathering of marching band directors from throughout the United States and is designed to share information on a variety of subjects ranging from recruiting, to programming, leadership, and show design. The highlight of Bob's session will be a presentation of how the WCU Band programs it's shows and will feature the BOA show from Indianapolis. Congratulations guys! This will be the first time that a Western Carolina marching band has ever been featured in a university marching band setting!
