Barbara Sturges, Chair of the Leagues Education Committee, presented the award at the Leagues first Bicycle Education Leaders Conference in Madison, WI on June 5. Over 170 of the nations most influential leaders in bicycle safety education attended the conference and applauded the efforts of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Jeffrey Miller, Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine described the success of organizations educational efforts by saying, "Were really immersed in bicycle safety education in the schools. We have 20 trained instructors going into over 100 schools teaching bike safety to 12,000 schoolchildren each year! We stress rules of the road, especially riding on the right and obeying traffic laws. We have also developed the Eyes, Ears, Mouth test to check helmet fit, teach kids to check their bike for safety with the ABC Quick Check, and give dressing tips to be visible and to keep laces and pant cuffs out of the gears." Much to the delight of the assembled bicycle safety experts, Miller lead the entire audience in a simulation of the Eyes, Ears, Mouth test during his acceptance speech.

Extractions: On 11/21, a group of local school children came with their teacher to tour the IMC. The teacher said that the kids had been watching the news about the protests and were filled with questions. She said she thought the best thing to do would be to bring them to where the people actually involved were so that they could talk to them and form their own opinions. IMC volunteers gave a tour, showed the kids the website and answered questions. Everyone was elated by the experience, both children and Imcistas alike.
