In Illinois these are called Regional Offices of Education. In Michigan these are called Intermediate School Districts. In that case, ISDs have boundaries that overlap regular school districts and have their own taxing authority. In New York and Colorado these agencies are called BOCES which stands for Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Texas has 20 Education Service Center Regions. If you don't know how to access assistance from these agencies, click here to link to the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) which can connect you to the state board of education in your state. You should be able to find out there if such agencies are in your state. The only USA exception is Hawaii which has one school district for the entire state and so, the state provides the assistance directly.

SMPA : About Us Training coordinated by SMPA staff in FY 20002001 included of education DMHMR SAS - MMP/CAN maine dev. Disabilities Council Administration on dev. http://www.somepa.org/about/report.htm
Extractions: We are a community. That said, families of children with disabilities have been the mainstay of and community for Southern Maine Parent Awareness (SMPA) since 1980. Originating as an intimate support group for about a dozen parents, we have grown to making contact with more than 5,500 families of children with disabilities and their service providers. Twelve thousand children with disabilities reside in southern Maine. SMPA offers information, support, resources, and referrals to those 12,000 families and their service providers living in York and Cumberland counties. There are programs and services available to help address most of these challenges; however, few families know that they exist. Families need someone they can call who will help them identify and access services. They need to know that they are not alone. This is what we do best. We provide information, support, resources, and referrals to families of children with disabilities aged pre-birth through 21 years.

National Child Care Information Center regional training coalitions; and Statewide staff development development system formainethe maine Roads to Child Care and Early education Career Development http://www.nccic.org/pubs/goodstart/prov-dev-ex.html
Extractions: Comprehensive professional development systems for early care and education personnel are accessible and based on a clearly articulated framework; include a continuum of training and ongoing supports; define pathways that are tied to licensure, leading to qualifications and credentials; and address the needs of individual, adult learners. Enhancing a spirit of life-long learning is one goal of any professional development system; similar to this goal, a professional development system itself is never a finished product and should continually evolve and be refined to best meet the needs of the population it serves. Within professional development systems are several interconnected components. These components fall under five broad elements: 1) Funding, 2) Core Knowledge, 3) Qualifications and Credentials, 4) Quality Assurances, and 5) Access and Outreach. A one-page document that outlines and defines this simplified framework is available on the Web at http://nccic.org/pubs/goodstart/pdsystem.html
