Extractions: LDEQ Emissions Inventory Coordinate Quality Control Web Page GOAL To improve the quality of facility coordinates reported to the LDEQ Emission Inventory (EI) Section. INTRODUCTION: For the reporting year 2002, facilities were asked to include the front gate coordinates on the Certification Statement submitted to the EI Section. In order to check the quality of this data, the 2002 data has been input into a database where it can be displayed on an interactive map inside a web browser. The LDEQ uses ArcIMS software from ESRI which can display raw coordinates as points on a map using a simple web browser interface. The user interface for this software is simple, with buttons allowing the user to zoom-in and -out, and a button to identify points on the map. An ArcIMS map has been developed for use by EI reporting facilities to assist them in confirming the quality of front gate coordinates. This map displays the 2002 EI front gate coordinates and has many reference layers, including parish boundaries, major roads, local roads, water bodies, digitized USGS quad maps and aerial photographs. In the future, LDEQ hopes to add to this project by incorporating the coordinates reported at the emission point level and to add air toxics emissions.

Last year through mid-March 2004, cases of yellow fever were reported from the departments of Guajira, Magdalena, Cesar, and Meta. Since the government has conducted a mass vaccination campaign and instituted vector control measures, the outbreak has waned. On 16 May, four bombs exploded in Ankara and Istanbul, targeting branches of a British-owned bank. The attacks occurred in advance of British Prime Minister Tony Blair's visit for talks with Turkish leaders, but caused only minor damage. On May 20, another small blast occurred near a Western fast food outlet in Istanbul. Those travelling to Turkey should exercise caution in all places.
