Saveourdaddy Travis, a father of three, has chronic myeloid leukemia. His best hope is to find a marrow donor, and he needs help to do this. http://www.saveourdaddy.com/
Extractions: Travis Mims is 31 years old and the father of three children. He lives in Monroe, LA. Travis was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on February 1, 2001. Recently he was told he was in the final stage. (To learn more about this deadly form of leukemia, click here. ) His best hope is a bone marrow transplant. His relatives have been tested, but none were a match. At this point, he is trying to raise funds to do a non-related bone marrow search. That will cost $12,000 and his insurance won't cover this. (See the estimate of charges from the hospital below). We, Travis's family, are doing anything and everything we can to save his life. His leukemia has taken an aggressive turn and we don't have much time. Travis has a wonderful wife, Jennifer, and three great boys, Jeffery, age 11, Tyler, age 10 and Joshua, age 4. The boys need their dad. Whatever you can do to help is much appreciated. If you can only donate $1, we can use it. We can also use your prayers. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Extractions: Cancer Information Types of Cancer Leukemias Overview Leukemia is a cancer of blood cells that originates in the bone marrow, the soft, spongy inner portion of certain bones. The cancerous cells in leukemia are the white blood cells (leukocytes). About 31,000 new cases of leukemia are diagnosed in the United States each year. Acute myelogenous leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia are the most common types in adults. Leukemia develops when a blood cell undergoes a transformation into a malignant cell one capable of uncontrolled growth. Leukemia cells begin to multiply in the marrow, and as they do so they crowd out the normal blood cells those that carry oxygen to the body's tissues, fight infections, and help wounds heal by clotting the blood. Leukemia can also spread from the marrow to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, brain, liver, and spleen. Blood-cell development begins in the marrow with the formation of stem cells. These primitive cells are capable of developing into any kind of blood cell. Each of these types of cell has a very specific job in the functioning of the body.
