Extractions: The statement, "all law is contract" is not strictly true. First, there are myriads of what are called physical laws although, technically, these should be called hypotheses or theories, but these do not concern us here because they do not apply to relations between individuals. There is, however, one natural law that applies to relations between individuals. It is, in fact, the only law of that nature that is not implemented via contract. That one natural law is survival . Not personal survival, although personal survival is a very important part of the law, but survival and transmittal into the future of your genes. (This law is a probabilistic law, i.e., it doesn't force you to do anything but instead makes it more or less probable that you will take some action.) You will literally do anything (probably) to ensure that your genes survive. Most human behaviour can be readily explained in terms of actions related to this natural law. But that is outside the scope of this course. However, a couple of examples may help you understand just how powerful this law is. If one of your children, carrying genes from you and your wife, is trapped in a burning building, you would quite likely (probabilistic law, remember) re-enter the burning building yourself in an attempt to save the child, even in the face of extreme personal danger. That parents do this is born out by numerous examples in real life. In fact, one of the major problems of firefighters is to prevent parents from re-entering a burning building to save children. And this impulse is generalized so that you might even enter a burning building to save other people's children.

Extractions: A Mechanism for Consensual Law Enforcement in a Libercratic Government Contract insurance (assurance or surety) is the mechanism for the enforcement of voluntary, contractual law. Contract insurance is a surety of protection for other people in one's interactions with them. It is the way in which people who are civilzens of different governments assure each other that each person will be held accountable for one's actions across governmental jurisdictions. Should a person commit a crime or violate a contract or commit a tort then contract insurance will be the mechanism which will ensure that the person will pay full restitution to the person(s) harmed. And it will help to compel appearance in court to face charges or to testify as a witness or to answer other court summonses which may come from governments other than the one of which the person is a civilzen. Likewise, contract insurance compels a person to answer a subpoena to appear in court as a witness or to answer other court orders. If the person were to refuse to appear, then the trustee would seize one's assets and the recalcitrant person would be fined as punishment. The authorities would then track the person down and require that the person appear in a video or phone deposition or the person would lose all of one's assets.

Areas targeted for critical need are more specificity in declaring the purpose behind taking information, a means to establish a negotiated contract that goes beyond W3's APPEL (A P3P Preference Exchange Language), a means in the law for policing the contracts obtained, a means for transitivity and universality of the protection on information, and an IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) definition that doesn't require the web (specifically, the HTTP protocol).

It brought the Hypertext Markup Language, HTML, that lets Browsers show what they hear from the Web Servers. It has recently brought a lot more. The eXtensible Markup Language, XML, provides a framework for automated content communication between Browsers and Web Servers. XML is widely used in merging data flow through Web Servers, and, anybody who has encountered Windows 2000 has seen XML content in lots of files that need automated content processing. XML has now naturally set the stage for automated privacy protection. The privacy assurance proposal is called the Platform for Privacy Preferences or P3P. This serious and excellent effort by the W3 is defined authoritatively at http://www.w3.org/p3p Today, enormous amounts of information are being collected by many thousands of web sites. Because P3P is an outstanding work, it deserves serious critique.
