HISTORICAL The first film in a two-part documentary on the fate of Allende's Popular Unity government filmed throughout Chile from February to September 1973. Part one examines the escalation of rightist opposition following the left's victory in Congressional elections held in March, 1973. Finding that parliamentary democracy would not stop Allende's socialist policies, the right-wing shifted its tactics from the polls to the streets. The film follows months of activity as a variety of increasingly violent tactics are used by the right to weaken the government and provoke a crisis. Notes: Videocassette release of a motion picture originally produced in 1975. In Spanish with English subtitles.

This quest for the opportunity to succeed economically, socially and religiously was directly associated with the natural art of food peddling, which served to be the primary talent brought over by the Greeks in the mid to late 1800s. Drawn to Chicago, the Greeks first arrived as ship captains; once settled, they polished their peddling trade. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

By the end of the 1st millennium B.C. , small numbers of Bantu-speaking people had migrated into the area from the northwest (present-day Nigeria and Cameroon) and settled in the savanna regions of the south. Aided by their knowledge of iron technology and agriculture, the Bantu-speakers migrated to other parts of the Congo and Africa, at the same time developing new, related languages. From about A.D.

Extractions: BEIJING - More than 26,000 women from throughout the world successfully held the largest forum ever of non- governmental organizations (NGOs) to discuss women's rights near this city. The forum in Huairou, China, included more than 5,000 workshops, and ended as the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing with official government delegations was still under way. The NGO gathering, which drew many women's rights activists, was testimony to the fact that the fight for equal rights for women is a part of discussions and struggles occurring throughout the world. Most of the governments at the official conference have felt compelled to portray themselves as trying to advance women's status. What came through in the myriad informal discussions and formal presentations was the fight women are forced to wage in country after country for equal legal rights, decent pay, and against exploitive working conditions. These struggles are spurred on by the greater integration of women into the workforce worldwide. "In Japan women earn 52 percent of the wages men earn," said Michiko Hiroki. "There are many cases now of women suing big companies for discrimination. The three big national union confederations, for the most part, have not fought for these women. Forty percent of working women are in part-time, temporary, or sub-contracted jobs. Immigrant women come from Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Iran, Bangladesh, and Iraq. Many are illegal and work the dirtiest and most dangerous jobs."
