Become a leader in curriculum development without giving up teaching? Become an Instructional Media Specialist Integrating computers and other modern information technologies into the curriculum is a top priority for many school systems, and school media specialists are the people who know how to do this. The number of school districts looking for full-time professionals in school library media and information technology has more than doubled since 1990. Many schools-both elemetary and secondary-are increasing their number of of full-time school media specialists. Plus, large nubmers of school librarians and media specialists are projected to retire in the next few years. There's never been a better time to enter the field and make a difference in education. "I made the change from public library work to a school media environment primarily because I wanted to be more directly involved with children in their education, and I wanted to facilitate the development of their information literacy skills-especially a lifelong love of reading. I have more of a sense of connectedness, continuity, and deeper personal satisfaction as a school media specialist than I experienced previously in public libraries."
