Indiana's neighbor states are Illinois on the west, Ohio on the east, Michigan to the north, and Kentucky to the south. Indianapolis is the capital Indiana, and each May hosts the famous Indianapolis 500 automobile race. Purdue University, which is internationally known for it's agricultural and engineering schools, is located in Lafayette, Indiana. Bloomington is a few hours drive north of Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby horse race. Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes, touches the northwestern tip of Indiana. The Ohio River, on it's way to join the great Mississippi River south of Illinois, forms the southern border of Indiana.
