Extractions: 2001 REGULAR SESSION: 579 BILLS, 264 RESOLUTIONS, 3 DAYS LEFT IN WHICH TO PASS NEW BILLS With three days left in which the House or Senate can pass a new bill, followed by two concurrence days and after a ten-day veto period, two veto days, four measures have passed by both bodies one resolution adjourning the legislature until February 6, a second resolution renaming a highway after Tom T. Hall, a bill confirming a reorganization of a Division within a state agency, and a fourth relating to HIV/AIDS education. So just why was it we needed annual sessions? Time is running out this session, and partisan rancor appears likely to kill a good brownfields bill as well as many other measures, including the Governor's solid waste bill and the bottle bill referendum. LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS HB 237, the Governor's solid waste bill, passes the House easily but will likely be weakened in the Senate.

( view biographical sketch What are your responsibilities as a staff developer? Meeting the unique learning needs of each child is a difficult task! Teachers understand that continuous reflection on their teaching strategies and continuous learning are paramount to meeting those needs. I have the privilege to assist in data analysis, goal setting, leadership development, personal development, curriculum development, specific area development (such as reading, writing, math, safety) and numerous specific needs as identified by individuals and schools. Our goal is to do whatever it takes to continuously improve teaching and learning. That responsibility falls on everyone in our school system, including me. Our staff development may be geared to the individual employee, specific group, school, or to the system. Have you ever learned something new but when you tried out that new technique you weren't sure if you were doing it right? Well, I am also able to insure that teachers have coaching, follow-up, opportunities to dialogue about staff development with other teachers, and opportunities to teach each other.
